As I'm sure everybody with a 'net connection or a TeeWee set has heard, a New York mother killed herself and three of her own children by driving her minivan off a boat ramp and into the Hudson River.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, the internets are not full of cries to ban (or at least seriously restrict access to) minivans, boat ramps, the Hudson River, or motherhood, although I'll note that banning these hideous high-capacity murder vehicles and making everyone drive Miatas would force distraught parents to drown their children one at a time instead of taking them wholesale to Davey Jones' Locker.
Tam, forgive my semantic confusion here -- "tragedy" or "atrocity"? Mainstream media has me so confused . . .
ReplyDeleteThe atrocity was tragic.
ReplyDeleteGovernment Mandate: All Mini Vans must float when inmersed in water by model year 2015
ReplyDeleteBathtubs, too. How many, especially children, drown or smash heads in a fall?
ReplyDeleteBut it is easier, apparently, to ban table salt (and preservatives like salt in "processed" foods), butter (and its "healthier" replacements such as margarine), walking a dog in a public park...
I'm only familiar with the Hudson River by name, but if it's anything like the Flint River here in Georgia, it probably needs to be banned. I'm just saying...
ReplyDelete... would force distraught parents to drown their children one at a time instead of taking them wholesale to Davey Jones' Locker.
ReplyDeleteNot that it would actually stop that sort of thing, mind.
Don't give the banners any more encouragement.
ReplyDeleteThe next thing you know they'll be declaring that no one needs a personal vehicle and everyine should rely on mass transit.
Such tragedies could be avoided if all we had were buses and trains.
After all, they're just advocating for common-sense transportation laws . . .
Thank Crom it wasn't a Hybrid! Then Hundreds of Rare, Endangered (Fill in the Blank) River Critters could have been Electrocuted!
ReplyDeleteSeriously now, if any one out there plans on Killing Themselves with their little ones in tow or you plan on Taking Your Kids Hostage to "Show Your Ex" when you try to prove how Big and Bad You Are as you take on the SWAT Team for the local TeeWee News, please Don't. It's been done to Death, doesn't prove anything except the fact that you never should have been allow to breath air in the first place, and it is a waste of my Tax Dollars. In other words, BOOOORING! Find a nice high Bridge in the middle of the Night and do a SOLO Impression of Road Kill, if you feel the need to remove yourself from my Plane of Existence.
Remember, The Anti-Freedom types are only out to destroy the human freedoms they DON'T use. "Progressives" drive cars, trucks, and vans. We can't ban those. They do do without icky guns, so those are fine to ban or restrict.
ReplyDeleteSame goes with Government goons sticking their fingers down their children's pants.

"Progressives" fly, so this is horrible...but we need to ban guns!
Was that a regular mini van or one of those high capacity assault mini vans? We could reduce tragedies like this by limiting capacity of mini vans to two seats.
ReplyDeleteDann in Ohio
(It is a tragedy, just a little satire for the anti-gun idiots)
I have a dangerous imported minivan...not sure my children know just how lucky they are that I've kept it on the road and out of the river!
ReplyDeleteFrom the article: "She was a very good mom." Ha wha? Just being "always with [your] kids" doesn't make you a good mom. As, apparently, evidenced.
ReplyDeleteWouldn't we be better off banning NY'ers? I mean think of all the shit we could preempt from just that one act!
ReplyDeleteThere must be stringent new safety measures for all future car designs.... we must require car manufacturers to only produce cars that are 100% buoyant so that this tragedy can never again happen.....
ReplyDeleteI hope the woman's family sues the car company for the wrongful death those children
You are all way off.
ReplyDeleteReproductive licensing is the obvious answer. Only people who pass an exacting background check, psyche exam, wait for many months, and pay the appropriate fees should receive a license to reproduce. It’s the only way to keep the criminals and crazies from acquiring kids.
I'm waiting for them to blame Bush.
ReplyDeleteJoanna said: From the article: "She was a very good mom." Ha wha? Just being "always with [your] kids" doesn't make you a good mom. As, apparently, evidenced.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I've never really got that, lots of stories about a Father or Mother brutally murdering their children include a saying roughly along those lines. What sort of nut thinks such people could even come close to being a "good parent"? (I can sort of handle the "He seemed OK" variant, because some nut-jobs seem normal until they snap)
In the gloriously won future coal-powered automobiles will be made to float...And not just on rock candy mountain.
ReplyDelete"She was a very good mom."
ReplyDeleteAnd OJ was a pretty standup citizen, except for that ONE little ten-minute rampage...
Mandatory floating cars: if it saves just one Senator's girlfriend....
ReplyDeleteAssault ramps.
ReplyDeleteChevy Volt Minivan - shock and gurgle.
ReplyDeleteWe must require suicide hotline centers to tell callers, "Leaving the kids behind will hurt them more than killing them along with you will."
ReplyDeleteSince many who commit suicide seem to be narcissistic sociopaths (or am I repeating myself?)this just migth work.
The tragedy was atrocious.
ReplyDeleteWow, if some dude did that, they'd be hollering how horrible he was, how bad dads (and men) are in general, and drumming up 100 old news stories to make a case of it, but a woman offs her kids and it's "but she was a good mom." How come they don't get all angry on the woman felon, instead of cooing how sorry they feel for her or make excuses.
ReplyDeleteGuy throws a pizza slice at the daughter, he's a monster; woman drowns the kids, well, you have to understand...
It like that one case where the mom drowned her two sons in the lake and blamed it on the blacks because her boyfriend said he didn't want to marry a woman who had kids (like, doesn't he have a say in what qualities he expects from a wife?), and the press had a field day trying to blame him for pushing her into doing it, though in the end she was the one who pushed the car into the lake, idjuts.
She was a good mom all right, all the way to their last breath.
vw: ducksksm - is that where the ducks split their religion into two different denominations and fight a war deciding which is right?
Failing Culture: example 10,999 for this month.

ReplyDeleteI am sure somehow it was the father's fault. Just like Andrea Yates murdering her kids was Rusty's fault.
Funny how this is the only thing that gets women a pass. Look at how many of society's ills are blamed on single moms, when it takes two to make one.
For Bobg...It's all Bush's fault!!!! It's those durn baked beans that caused the flatulance that caused the mother to freak out and buy a minivan in the first place and then, hey, how did Kevin Bacon get into this?
ReplyDeleteAnon 10:32,
ReplyDeleteDude, seek help. You're seeing shit that isn't there.
To be fair, feminists are pretty unilaterally pro-child-drowning.
ReplyDeleteBut the awesome thing with anon's complaint is that you can use it on any news story!
Woman does something bad: Boy, if a man had done this, he wouldn't get any slack!
Woman does something good: Boy, if a man had done this, he wouldn't get any credit!
Man does something bad: Boy, if a woman had done this, you wouldn't say boo!
Man does something good: Boy, if a woman had done this, it'd be a big screamin' deal!
See! Absolutely multi-purpose. It's the Swiss Army Knife of imaginary grievances.
There's a special place in hell...
ReplyDeleteJoan Peterson of the Brady Campaign says vehicles aren't designed to kill people - but I say what else do you think those child-locks are there for? They are child-drowning-locks.
