Let's sing the Fun Show Song!
Flintlocks and Flop-topsI am hoping to find a reasonably priced Savage .32 auto, but failing that, I'll be happy just looking at stuff. Having one of the largest gun shows in the country less than two miles from my doorstep is something I hope I never get used to.
And Number Three Russians
Black-powder Mausers
From jackbooted Prussians,
Shiny Smith PC's from limited runs
These are a few of my favorite guns.
Socketed bay'nets
On Zulu War rifles,
Engraved, iv'ried Lugers
That make quite an eyefull
Mosin tomato stakes sold by the ton
These are a few of my favorite guns.
Rusty top-breaks!
Smallbore Schuetzens!
And all of Browning's spawn
I just keep on browsing my favorite guns
Until all my money's gone.
Don't think I'm going to make it this time. Maybe on Sunday if my dad is up for it.
ReplyDeleteTam did you get the email I sent about the local Smith who has a S&W 35 Auto? (IIRC he had a little Savage too. And an Astra 600.)
Yes I did! I need to get down there, obviously. :)
ReplyDeleteGive me an email heads up if you want a guided tour.
ReplyDeleteAnother shop in KY had a British Bulldog in 38 S&W, and there are a few shop in OH that you may like.
THANK YOU for the clever song! Verse 2, please :)
ReplyDeleteNow I will have something to hum as I spend the next several hours raking hay.
As far as I'm concerned, the only answer to "What time is it?" is an enthusiastic "AaaaaaaaaadVENTURE TIME!" Which, luckily, covers everything you just said, so I guess we're even. :-P
ReplyDeleteWV: plorsis. "Master Jones caught the plorsis in the West Indies, and I'm afraid his affinity for whist has never been quite the same ... "
The Indy 1500 is the only gun show where I've ever bought, y'know, a gun. Heretofore it's always been slings, stocks, ammunition, cleaning icta, parts, blah blah blah.
ReplyDeleteIt was, oddly, a nicely counterbored "tomato stake." About 10 years ago there was a shop in My Fair City that sold Mosins quite literally by the wheelbarrow-load - there was a large wooden wheelbarrow full of 91/30s and Turk Mausers. They were shot-out and darn near unfirable, and their nasty old pallet-wood stocks would actually squish and ooze when you picked one up. I never got one, out of the only halfway irrational fear that it would burst into flame when I attempted to shoot it.
The barreled receiver would have made a good "breaker bar" for stubborn lug nuts, and the stocks would have made superb kindling, if only there weren't cheaper ways of changing nuts and starting fires.

WV: pononido - like bastinado only in reverse.
Tam: Thank you for the musical giggle. (Sooooo....I'm not the _only_ one [meaningful glance at girlfriend] who spontaneously erupts into nonsensical song take-offs!)(s) Skyrat
ReplyDelete"Mosin tomato stakes sold by the ton..."
ReplyDeleteI should know better by now to swallow my coffee before reading. I do my best to clean up but my wife is really getting tired of this.
Browsing is over half of the fun.
ReplyDeleteI've got to get some .380 and some little odds and ends.
And of course there's "ergonomics testing". Fancy talk for holding a firearm to see how it feels in the hand.
Kind of hard to do that with mail order and 'net purchases.
If you haven't formally posted a copyright notice on those lyrics, you might want to. Otherwise, it might wind up getting credited to Major Caudill...
ReplyDeleteWhat Drang said, Jeebus that is a beautiful ®song© - do it quick!
ReplyDeletew/v: corked - there goes my cannon...
gun shows, big old gun shows
ReplyDeletewhat kind of kind of kids go to gun shows
fat kids, skinny kids who buy some glocks
tough kids, sissy kids, even kids with brand new stocks
love gun shows, big old gun shows.
where kids just love to buy
&^&$^%! The Owner of the Venue that brought Gun Shows to my side of Cleveland a year ago just sent an eMail to the City that hosts them that he's folding up his tent and going out of business. Now I'm driving over an hour one way to hit the nearest shows again.
ReplyDeleteOf course, this is all Bush's Fault.
If you can't find a Savage .32, I can tell you why.
ReplyDeleteRan across a man today at the Houston Fun Show who had a table full of 'em. I joked that he was cornering the market and driving up prices.
He had most if not all of the variants, even one of the .45 ACP test models.
They averaged about 3.5 bills, excluding the .45, which required a firstborn child and bushel of Krugerrands...
ND at the Indy 1500 last night...
ReplyDeleteMuch applause when they announced what happened and mentioned that the vendor involved has been banned for life.

Brava!
ReplyDeleteHeh!, El Capitan, Second or third row of tables from the left hand side and the .45 version was at the top right hand side of his table, I think that was the only .45ACP version I have ever seen in the wild. Tam's side of the world seems to get all the cheap S&W revolvers and we have all the Savage .32s, what the hell kinda fairness is that???
ReplyDeleteBob in Houston.
I saw a couple Savages, but nothing that screamed "Buy Me!"
ReplyDeleteAt the National Gun Day show in Louisville, I stopped at one table and managed, by spreading my hand as wide as I could, to touch a Savage .45 and a Springfield Mk.I with the Pedersen Device installed at the same time with my thumb and pinky. :)
Tam FTW! Brava!
