I think government connection to light sockets could hypothetically be instructive, useful, and even amusing. Effective illumination, not so much. Ask Bobbi how to light up a hot dog.
Not that I disagree with the sentiment, but I suggest that it is rather easier said than done. There are times when the government SHOULD "be in our bedroom (or kitchen, living room, etc.). Where we fail as a society is in getting into the habit of thinking that the government is some force existing independent of ourselves and that there is little or nothing that we can do to alter its behavior. If the government is in our bedrooms, it's because enough of us have either decided that this is a good thing, or else we just sort of shrug helplessly and mutter about voting them out next time.

ReplyDeleteHell, I don't even want much government in the town-hall, in Trenton, or DC.
ReplyDeleteWhat Bram said. USA out of America, or government out of my geography, as one prefers.
ReplyDelete"My reading of history convinces me that most bad government results from too much government."

"Patriotism is supporting your country all the time, and your government when it deserves it."
- Mark Twain
Would be nice, huh? Pity it won't ever happen. Government is IN, baby, as in IN your business.
