Looking for a house to rent in this neighborhood of old Mediterranean-looking row houses terraced on a hillside. In my dream, I think it was Trieste, but how or why, I don't know. Never been to the place.
Helping this little girl and her mom get the latest version of OS X installed on the girl's blueberry iBook that she used for school under some kind of "laptops for poor kids" program or something. The little girl was practically Berke Breathed's Ronald-Ann come to life. What was weird was that the version of OS X we were installing was like some corporate-sponsored free version, by Volkswagen. There were Volkswagen splash screens at startup, wallpapers, icons, and screen savers, and you couldn't change them.
At the deserted fairgrounds, taking a shortcut with friends. Somehow wound up atop a cattle trailer for an eighteen wheeler. You wouldn't think something that big could roll so easily, but it started rolling across the fairgrounds when my weight shifted. I hopped off as it was about to careen into a wall and it was like my weight was the only thing holding the tongue end down, as it immediately pivoted up and came to rest on the tailgate with a *CLANG!* like someone dropped a dumpster off a roof.
Anyhow, this was all somehow part of a very cohesive narrative, but the waves of waking washed most of it away and only left these strange little shells and pebbles on the beach.
The psilocybin shrooms ad an indefinable but spectacular flavor to the tirkey gravy, but they have their disadvantages too.
ReplyDeleteVery elegant. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteDo you dream is color as well? The level of clarity you retain after waking is remarkable.
ReplyDeleteOf what Imperial and Royal fleet was Trieste once a base?
ReplyDeleteI got you beat: I spent last night at Disneyworld with Adam Savage from Mythbusters, tracking down voodoo-related artifacts for Warehouse 13. Mr. Savage was very disappointed when we failed in our mission.
ReplyDeleteAnd for the record, I had turkey soup and dumplings for dinner, with a pumpkin pie chaser. So I don't know what that was all about.
Last night I dreamed that a fisherman I'd made many trips with called me up and told me the boat would be leaving at 2am the next morning.
ReplyDeleteOf course there was the underlying dread of going back to my Fed job that I'm happy to no longer be doing. Odd that I didn't notice this particular fisherman has been dead for the past four years.
Really what was interesting was since I haven't shipped out for so long I'd forgotten exactly what to pack for a trip offshore, and I was struggling with if I should be bringing the charging cable for my Kindle since they hadn't been invented when I was still hitting the seas...

Plumber I know escaped from behind the Iron Curtain by swimming across the bay with his girlfriend to Trieste. That's what I know about Trieste.
ReplyDeleteOk, whatever elixir Tam ingests before tucking in for the night is some powerful stuff!
ReplyDeleteWV: Jacht - We sailed our Jacht from Hamburg to Trieste back in the day, ever wary of those damned British Sunderland flying boats as we transited the Straits of Gibraltar...
@ Sport Pilot,
ReplyDeleteRecalling dreams more vividly is a matter of habit. If you routinely pay attention to what you call, your focus and retention tend to improve. Jot down as much detail as you can, each time, and you can improve your recall. It really is as simple as that -- where you put your interest and attention is where your skills increase.
@ Tam,
Trieste. Hmm. You haven't been reading any war books or European biographies, have you? Anything particularly engaging? Hmm?
The rolling truck thing, that wouldn't have been about the time a delivery truck or garbage collection truck was making rounds, would it? Or roomie might have stumbled over a trash can.
OS X, Volkswagen, little girl, you, girl's Mom, going to school with mismatched and spotty tech and software. You might be considering returning to school, and worrying about getting the hardware and other tech lined out. And the VW might be another war-time reference, this to Hitler's "People's Car". Are you sure you haven't been reading, late at night, some war book about Austria and other Europeans?
Enjoy!
God, I miss Ronald-Ann.
