Miscellenia...

  • Since Roomie was off tending stardrives last night, I wound up watching the last half of the game. It was pretty good. I was glad to see that the Cigarette Smoking Man wanted the NFC to win this year. (And poor Eli; two Super Bowl rings and he's still Peyton's Little Brother to the sportscasters...)

  • Breakfast is sopressata, Manchego, smoked Gouda, Parrano, and crackers. Yum!

  • Having ticked the boxes for the Colt, Savage, Remington, and H&R, I've now started really paying attention to prices and availability for the S&W Model of 1913, or "Model 35" as it is sometimes known. Yow. Colts are spendy but plentiful, the Smiths are almost as spendy (at least as far as this class of guns goes,) but pretty scarce.

  • Now that they are no longer sacrificing virgins under city hall to keep the weather spirits at bay, winter is expected to return with a vengeance.

  2. Now you can say that the last time you really paid attention to a football game was yesterday. How funny considering saturdays post.By the way who got the most baskets?

  3. hootie11bravo,

Actually, I watched the second half of that 34-year-old Falcons game on YouTube the other nights, too. The parallels between the two were interesting.

Low-scoring games. The favored team is leading going into the second half. The underdog takes the lead in the closing minutes after inspired drives and a miraculous catch. The favored team has one more drive and the clock runs out with a failed scoring attempt after a dramatic drive...

Good drama. Couldn't have been scripted better.

  4. I'm glad the Giants won, but the extremely rare, yet "to script," drops by Branch and Welker certainly ensured "Mr. Dreamy" went home empty-handed to his supermodel wife.

I liked how Eli deflected the "brother's house" comment in the post game interview. Eli has accomplished more in less time than his older sibling. The sooner Indy stops its worship of the one dimensional phenom, the better the Colts will be.

  5. I like the Midwestern modesty evinced by the gigantic-humongous bigass super-sized out-house that hides the stadium. It beats the hell out of the usual giant circular toilet-shaped venue with a dome cover/lid than most places have.

  6. Buzz,

As a truly disinterested party (Bears fan from infancy; the Colts are Johnny-come-latelies to me, despite the fact that I was in my 20s when they came to town), please allow me to make the point that Peyton Manning is, in fact, a certified phenom. He is a field general without peer.

That said, he is a phenom with lousy ownership and management that never bothered to look for someone to truly understudy him and prepare to be his replacement. You want to blame somebody for 1-1 Super Bowls and a 2-12 record this year? Blame Jimmy the drug addict and the Polians who couldn't see past the end of their noses as to the need to ensure a viable successor for their aging QB.

Something tells me Eli has had a different experience in New York, which may have bearing on his accomplishing so much at a much younger age than his brother.

  7. The ammunition for the Smith is scarce, but I have been told you can shoot .32 in it. I have not done so, and only have a few (precious) rounds of .35.
Bought mine a while ago, I didn't think it was too dear at the time.

  8. Looked up the Smith. What a strange design! But, then again, I suppose that there were many ultimately dead-end designs back in the dawn of the autoloader era. What would our pistols be like if John Browning hadn't come along!

    libertyman,

Apparenly, one can shoot .32ACP in the S&W.
