So much for me being Smart.
I took the Smart People test at RWCG. I are not Smart. Especially because my answer to number six ("What's there to do in K-town?") was "Go to a Vols game."
I'm a dumbass and got a lot of zeros on that test - how's that supposed to work and what does 5/20 mean? And who the hell is Malcolm Gladwell?? Under "podcast" all I *know* is the (now defunct) "Vicious Circle" but I never listen to the 'pod or the cast. Hey, how about that gunboat diplomacy! IMO a "Good reason for private elementary school for your kids" is to avoid the propaganda and pablum spread by the State-Run diversity-machine schools, and the Gangs therein.
Both smart people and the author of the test are tools.
Come on!
MBA is awarded for arrogance and not much else, and if you correlate US economy performance with number of MBA's you'll discover a very interesting inverse correlation.. and Malcolm Gladwell is an ex-big tobbacco shill and purveyor of nice smelling oh-so clever bullshit.
Whereas, real PhD's in say, aerospace or CS.. those needs smarts.
Then, smarts do not equal the ability to earn money. Especially if the smart person isn't a dick, like the prick who runs Zynga, for example. (engineering games to be as addictive as possible with generous help from Dr. B.F.Skinner? He's a prick..)
By not bothering to actually read the backstory of the linked post, despite the handy provided links, in order to discern the difference between 'smart' and 'Smart', you are perilously close to proving the point.

Read the linked story. Author doesn't like run-of-the mill educated liberals who think they are smart.
That's why all the references to Gladwell, AGW, and other things they have in common.
I like Malcolm Gladwell, had to read "Blink" as a part of "Officer Professional Development." He sure put into words about why people need to listen to their gut. Of course some of the problem with listening to your gut is that it has crap for brains.
However, I think that humor aside there is a very large divergence between the "liberal elite" and the "free thinkers" of America the same way certain journalists have been highlighting the divergence of Americas military with the "normal folks."
The same folks who hated universal conscription are now concerned that we have a "mercenary class" in our society. Truth is we have always had that "mercenary class" but now we don't have the draftees to provide the window dressing of "necessity" or "shared sacrifice."
Of course those same folks declared a "war on poverty" and keep trying to figure out why throwing money at poor people doesn't make them less poor but ever more dependent.
I guess the real question is "has America always had a stratified society and the modern convenience of mass communication made them all more apparent?" This seems the more likely case.
Well, I spun up a whole '3' on the Smart People Test.
I got stuck on the '___ Diplomacy' question. I couldn't get past "VooDoo Economics". I am not that sure we have *seen* much diplomacy since Reagan's era. Er, Reagan's Presidency. Sorry, Lanius.

I took the Smart people test he linked to and scored 15. That's what happens when you're too busy being pedantic on the internet to follow professional sports or watch broadcast television. (I'd work on being snarky instead, but there's no way I could compete with Tam.)
