Sometimes I don't know why I even try...

Within arm's reach of where I'm sitting now, there's a Mauser 1910, a Remington 51, a Savage 1910, an H&R Self-Loading Pistol, a Colt M1903 "Pocket Hammerless" (from the second year of production!), and an FN 1922. Not counting the Smith M&P 9 on my hip...

...and I've got some goober on an internet gun forum trying to tell me about the realities of the viability of off-brand semiautomatic pistols in the marketplace.

Sigh.

Hey, didja hear Remington's back in the pistol business again?

  1. Remington's back? Really? Prey tell with what?

Pay no attention to the forum background noise!

  2. 'Goober' is about right.

I might know a thing or two, and I would not DREAM of challenging your knowledge on this topic.

  3. The problem with forums is that there is no entrance exam...

  4. Keads, they make an excellent 1911.

And yeah, I'd have to be drunk, high, and oxygen deprived to disagree with Tam about guns.

  5. I respect the opinions of people who are experts in their field. Tam's opinion is one of those, when it comes to firearms.

  6. In defense of "gun forum goobers" everywhere, I've been doing the "internet gun thing" since rec.guns was state of the art and I shudder now at things I beleived passionately before.

We all have got some learning and often some growing up to do. When you are at an advanced stage of knowledge it's easy to forget what it's like to think you know everything without really realizing the limitations of your knowledge.

I know there's plenty of old stuff of mine out there that I'd cringe at if it were dug up now because, honestly, there were plenty of times I didn't know what I was talking about and also didn't know enough to realize it.

If there's anything worse than being wrong, it's being wrong while firmly, passionately, convinced you are right.

  7. In my locker I have an remington XP-100 in 7mm bench rest.

Remington pistols... I lusted after their new stainless 1911 recently. Waiting for my tax return for a reawakening of good sense

  8. Not sure what goober is trying to tell you, but I sure wish that someone was making new copies of the 1903 and 1908 myself. All the design needs is a bit more prominent set of sights. I really like shooting my 1908, it outshoots any pocket .380 or pocket nine anyone has brought out with me.

  9. Here Tam, let me pour you a bourbon to go with your snark. It lubes the eyes for rolling.

  10. The market always has the last say about what is a "better" mousetrap.

  11. Which forum? I respect your opinions, and suspect that any forum you post to would have more wheat than chaff. (Or at least more worth reading than the other gum forums.)

  12. I agree w/ Tam. Was once asked if I was an "expert", because I was (am) always reading anything I could on military arms. my answer is always no, I consider my self a serious student, an "expert" being defined as a "ex" -has been; "spert" - drip under pressure......

  13. Yes, Robin, I'd buy a 2012 Colt Pocket Hammerless, too. Sadly, an all metal gun with that sort of machining and fitting requirements would probably mean a price tag of $1600. While I'd get one, I don't think they'd sell enough to justify the run.

  14. Hey! Using the term "goober" in a demeaning way is harmful to all of us goobers - the real ones, mind you - who mean no harm and would never think of trying to go one on one with you on gun stuff.

YOu really should be careful about the words you use and how you use them. GOOBERS OF THE WORLD UNITE!
