Overheard in the Parking Lot at the Columbus Hamfest:
Me: "Make sure when we stop at the Antiques Mall on the way back that you lock the car, or someone will put more old radio crap in the back seat while we're in there."
When I still lived in Indiana, I went to the Hamfest over in Fort Wayne. It was seemed like paradise to me, as a new ham operator. While I got some good deals on VHF gear that I still use, looking back I can see that 90% of the stuff there was junk to at least 99.999% of the population (which still includes me).
No, only the frame, a few circuit boards, the elgin clock that gave the hours it was active in the silo and the Mg side panels with the 12 pt Ti bolts and Be washers
When I was in College I used it as a shelf for paperback books in my Dorm room. It is in my garage now. I believe the circuit board contacts are gold. I do not know if they are a solid alloy or plated.
Tam says that like it's a bad thing. And Wayne, who WOULDNT like a HQ101? I used to have a HQ120 and I miss that old boat anchor. Got rid of all the old boat anchors at a low point in my life when I was living in a Dodge Omni, and could only keep a few compact things. Been back on my feet a long time, but have never been able to replace a lot of the old radios (and guns) that I used to have.
Hey, know where I can Unload an AN/MPQ-51 Radar set thats mounted on it's own M514 trailer? I happen to have one holding down some dirt in the back yard.
I knew I guy who had a search radar for an F101 Starfighter mounted in the front of VW bug where the lid was a fibreglass replacement.
No cop withing a couple of towns had a functioning radar speed detector for a while until said guy realized the sheer amount of micro-wave radiation that it produced was probably unhealthy. Nevermind, the big arse generator in the back seat.
You sound like my wife. She still thinks I need to get rid of my inertial guidance system (minus Gyro) from a Minuteman 1, that I have had since 1979.
