I would like to apologize to all the gardeners of central Indiana for the freeze warnings last night and tonight.
I cannot tell a lie: I put all my fleece pullovers and long-sleeved tee shirts away on Tuesday, figuring that after a week or two of highs in the 70s and 80s that it was safe to do so. Sorry 'bout that. My bad all 'round.
Too much time in Atlanta, perhaps?
ReplyDeleteGrowing up in the Midwest raises "you don't put your woolies away in early April" to the level of instinct.
Probably not your fault. The gardeners probably won't curse your name specifically, since there's always somebody...
Living here in the most fertile farmlands in the nation, where farmers plant even as the 'last snow' melts away......
ReplyDeleteI have been treated to fifty eleven freeze warnings a day for the last three days. My phone is going off so often it sounds like a backup beeper on a PennDOT salt ruck.
Living in a place (western NC) where the natives have coined terms like "Dogwood Winter" and "Blackberry Winter", I've learned you just can't trust a few warm Spring days.
ReplyDeleteSpring, like Democrats, is often false.
ReplyDeleteI'm not putting away my snow shovel, salt, sand, hats, or mittens until May.
ReplyDeleteThough I did have to mow the lawn the last day of March...it was either that or buy a goat and fence the place in.
I am relieved. I thought is was me taking down storm windows and putting up screens.
ReplyDeleteUp here in Minnesnowta it's usually draining the gas tank and running the carb dry on the snowblower that causes the last blizzard of the season.
ReplyDeleteI brought my "stranded at work" bag home with me, so expect a glacier to appear in the Puget Sound region any day now.
ReplyDeletemy green beans have a all sprouted vigorously which was the signal for a cold snap.
ReplyDeleteGood thing we're not all Locavours...
