As most folks know, I am generally into older, collectable guns; I like my guns to have a bit of history to them. I used to have all kinds of scary black rifles and all different manner of funky newer pistols and revolvers, but I've jettisoned them all over time except for a handful.
The few modern/new guns I have, I use for CCW, practice, or (in the case of my AR) just in case the dead rise from the grave and walk the earth in search of human brains. My practical guns aren't chosen based on any criteria other than a proven track record, suitability for their purpose, and how well they work for me. I don't care about whether they look cool or not, or what funky new mechanism they incorporate, or which alphabet tactical operators use them, or which SF movie or video game they star in...
...until now. This UTS-15 shotgun might be a complete malfunctioning ball of suck and fail, I don't know and I don't care, because its aesthetic hits me right in my Starship Troopers wheelhouse. I never fell for the FS2000 or PS90 or RFB or KSG or KRISS... but I sure hope the UTS feels real chintzy in person, or I am likely to do something foolish and buy a shotgun I totally don't need.
I wonder what would happen if I took it to the trap range?
ReplyDeleteSome old timers would seize right up and die.

ReplyDeleteKetltec is going to be pissed. Isn't that pretty much what they just released?
ReplyDeleteI want it in an autoloader.......someone hand me a drool rag.
ReplyDeleteI should have one in hand later this month. Want to come by and play with it? It's very different from KSG internally and handles differently also.
ReplyDeleteAh yes, their re-engineered Neostead copy. Looks cool though.
ReplyDeleteHAH! I knew you had a "Because it LOOKS cool" gene in you.
ReplyDeleteThe KRISS was mine. I'm as utilitarian as they get, I don't even care about historical value. I want to pull trigger, hear big boom.
Sure, I appreciate a well made 1911, but more for its value for tossing chunks of lead in comfort.
Glad to see even the "Blister Pack Pistols" crowd shares my weakness.
Want it.
ReplyDeleteI'm holding out for the StG44 in .22 caliber.
ReplyDeleteOh, wait, that's not as "newcool" as this scatterblaster, that would be defined as "retrocool that I don't need to live in my car and can afford to not just shoot, but shoot lots and not worry about brass".
If you get one, Tam, send it to me. I'll install little blue LED lights in each of those little skyscraper windows and send it back to you.
ReplyDeleteWho's up for a bug hunt?
ReplyDeleteEvidently it's what the janissaries carry for close-quarters battle these days.
ReplyDeleteIt'd be even Kooler if you got it Duracoated in the color of your Zed Drei. Never can tell when you'd be out and about and a Zed Outbreak occurs.....
ReplyDeleteAren't you just going to wait for the Ruger version?
ReplyDeleteShootin' Buddy
Hi,Tam! questions - 1. Any idea why this trips yer trigger vs. say, a KSG? 2. What's your preference in ARs, gas piston or direct impingment? JohninMd(help)
ReplyDeleteOh, man.
ReplyDeleteWe've got the F2000, the Kriss, the RFB, and now this?
It's like Halo, in your hands.
I need to sell a kidney, or something.
I like the historical angle, too. I mean, how cool would it be to own one of the Lewis guns actually used in the Emu War?
ReplyDelete"...but with top-mounted alternately feeding magazines providing a total capacity of 15 rounds, the UTS-15 has truly broken new ground in tactical shotgun design."
ReplyDeleteIt'll certainly break new ground if you can actually get one. I'm looking at you, Kel-Tec.

1) It's not rational, purely a looks thing.
2) DI, generally.
It felt fine to me... (I told ya you should have come to the NRAAM.)
ReplyDeleteIIRC you can pick a tube or set it in the middle and it will feed from both tubes... which sounds better than the KSG.
If you like the novelty of that shotgun be sure to check out the Boberg Arms XR9-S:

Ed,
ReplyDelete"If you like the novelty of that shotgun be sure to check out the Boberg Arms XR9-S"
The shotgun isn't all that novel (cf. Neostead and KSG), I merely like its looks. They make me want to help Ripley shoot aliens.
Had a T&E Boberg XR9S for a month or so. Will probably be buying one. Not so much for the novelty as... well, watch for the review in CCM.
That ought to take an interesting looking tactical carrying case.
ReplyDeleteStill, there's a lot to be said for ahi-cap shotty-blaster at close multiple Zombie-range. In a case of real synapse-jumping adrenalin, one could prob'ly lay out a lead fan right quick.
BTW, should 'hap to read this entry, did you not have a pretty neat and unobtrusive looking rifle case reviewed in a recent column? Canna find it wit' the blog's internal search engine, but the creaky brain electrics behind this keyboard, believe it was you givin' it a smile.
"buy a shotgun I totally don't need. "
ReplyDeleteWho are you, and where is Tam? If I see a body you're gonna spend a long time wishing you were dead.

Like the stripper said to my friend while changing the tune he had just
ReplyDeletepicked on the jukebox.
"I cahnnt dahnce to it..."
argh, I know. I have two shotguns I don't need sitting at the shop waiting on the ATF to approve transfer. I need a 14" 590A1 like a hole in the head, but it's dead sexy. The Tromix S17, let's just say I was powerless to resist. Pure unadulterated gun lust, not a logical reason for purchase in sight.
ReplyDeleteThis shotgun needs a chainsaw mounted on the bottom rails. And a big guy named Marcus F. to endorse it. :)
