Tam, found the post I made at Frank's on the subject. If you search "sinus" on his site, there is info about medications he talks about.
Will said... Frank, something you could try: flush your sinuses. You can get a little nettie pot, but I never had much success with that mode. What I use is a Waterpick. Use distilled water, with a teaspoon of PLAIN salt, not iodized. Warm up the water first, it helps loosen up the stuff. Use the bent end tip, and try to orient it into the openings/passages. Don't be surprised to find blood in the discharge, this is from the infection site. Do this one to three times a day. This will relieve the pressure, and speed up the healing.
I modified a tip by cutting off most of it and tapping it 10-32T. Then I went to a hobby shop and got the smallest fuel line tubing (clear hose) they had (.125 OD, 1/16 ID ), and a brass hose barb fitting. I have about 4-5 inches of tubing now mounted to the Waterpick plugin tip. I smoothed the end of the tubing by heating it with a flame, as your sinuses will notice any rough edges.
Using this flexible setup, I can now get the water directly into the affected sinus zone, and blast it clean. Doesn't take much flow, so go easy on the slide control button until you figure out how much is necessary to get the job done.
BTW, works best if you hold your face down over the sink. If you keep your head up, the backwash tends to hit your throat, and makes it seem like you are drowning. I think it simulates "waterboarding" very well!
I recently used Guaifenesin for my lungs, but it also seems to have helped to keep my sinuses drained.
I was buying it at Costlo, where it comes in a 400mg pill (Mucus Relief). This was too much for me. I tried quartering the pill, since a recent prescription included 100mg, but that didn't seem to work for more than an hour. Half a pill was good for 3.5-4 hrs, which is what they expect of it.
Feel better.

Feel better Tam... People look at me in disbelief when I tell them I get a headache when the weather turns suddenly

Alka-Seltzer Plus Cold or its store-brand equivalent.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter refers to it as "The Hammer of the Gods."
Works, and works quick.
