I've never seen any of that before, nor visited that blog previously. And I don't get it.
There were opinions and ideas left in the comments of both posts, but the difference seems to me that the author didn't WANT comments on his making tea post because he felt it a closed matter and therefore infantile to discuss. He was perfectly open to and interested in furthering knowledge in the programming post, so rolled lovingly in the comments like a wet dog in dirt.
It doesn't really seem that the comment quality or commenters personalities varied that much, though I can see microwave tea making being a jumping off point to really tedious conversation in any venue.
If anything, there seems to be undertones of tyranny and power lust in the discussion of comment moderation. Not that there's anything wrong with that ::rolleyes::
