Angry.

I've been really angry lately. I don't like being angry. I've said mean things to people I shouldn't have been mean to, uncorked on folks I shouldn't have uncorked on.

I need to just chill some. Take a long bike ride, go smell some flowers, something like that. Not read the news or listen to it on TeeWee for a while and just detox from this mess for a bit.

I'd go for a walk in the rain since that always seems to make me all cheerful, but it seems like we're never going to get any more of that. (The weather isn't helping: In places where the climate is normally dry, one is surrounded by flora and fauna equipped to survive in the dry. Here in Hoosierland, everything is dying. I'm surrounded by dying plants all day; how jolly is that?)

  5. Same here, been cranky for the last month...

I'd suggest you catch a flight up to the pacific NW to hang out in the wet but you might strangle a tsa junkie on the way. ;-)

Its been raining here in vegas but when the monsoon comes it starts to feel like your next to lake MI but its over 100F.

  7. Well...let's not delay the fix because you aren't thinking out of the box.

Somewhere, very close to you, there is a retail store that sells various sprinklers that will attach easily to the garden hose [is it called a 'hose pipe' in Indiana?] guaranteed to give a refreshing shower of your choice.

No, really...that's what I mean. Do it outside like you're 10 years old.

You need humidity...and I'm guessing that you'll feel better if you get a bit of it. Putting a little moisture in the dirt out back isn't going to hurt. High temps and low humidity are a nasty combo no matter where the location.

But, of course, it won't really happen if you don't post pics...I'm thinking cranking up the sprinkler and actually watching the birds thank you for reviving/exposing insects.

Or, perhaps you need a break that Indiana can't fix. Come on down and see us. I, for one, would be happy to see you again and talk about those poseurs who buy SIGs and BMWs because they haven't done their homework.

  8. I understand what you mean.

I've decided I just can't get enraged about every injustice I read about, because there are too many, and it would burn me out even more.

I find staying away from the web for a few days helps.

    Hope you feel better soon

  10. Everyone in my family seems to die in the summer, so I get cranky as hell too. It's gotten bad lately, and I'm losing it.

A couple of days ago I hit rock bottom. I went on a bender in the YouTube comments section and picked a fight with the Moon Landing Hoaxers and some ass who couldn't talk about his pistols without violating Rule 3.

There needs to be a 12-Step Program for this.

  11. I know what you mean. There is nothing more depressing than having everything in your yard, that you walk past every day, not only dying but looking pitiful while doing so. I think it's almost as bad as a really long winter with no sunshine from a temperament standpoint.

  17. Your post perfectly describes Texans from mid-May to late September.

God help the interstate drivers who merge poorly in a Dallas rush hour during August, for we Texans will have no mercy upon them.

  18. I saw rain in Philly last week. It was like a revelation.

Of course I had to drive up I-95 from DC to get there, so I was more pissed off than usual. But you're right. If we could just get some rain it would be wonderful. Tired of bright sunny days.

  19. down here in Lower Alabama it's been hot, but also humid which make the weather truly miserable. and, thanks to the recent innundations of monsoon like proportions, my tomatoes and beans have done well, but we've also had a bumper crop of ants, spiders and mosquitos. it also appears to have driven the local cardinals insane as they bump continuously against my windows. gotta pick your poison.

  20. Actually, the whole Middle East/crazy thing makes a lot of sense now, doesn't it. Lots of hot, lots of next-to-nothing-rain---it's enough to bake a person's brains and drive them batshit crazy.

Probably illegal to do that. More stuff to get mad about.

And Tam, I hopr your not down on yourself for calling that commenter a stethoscope monkey over at Popehat. He deseserved it.

  23. It started raining again here in NJ. My grass woke up, my vegetable garden was great. Then a f&*# #*$&@ rabbit ate every bean, pea, and broccoli plant in it.

My first reaction was to run out guns blazing - but the neighborhood is too close and I really don't want to go to jail.

So I have to stay pissed and put up a better fence next year. Traps and perhaps archery aren't out of the question.

  24. Brief follow up comment: You deal with a lot of comments from blog follower's and such as well as particapating in activities. There is nothing wrong with getting upset with someone or venting your dislike of what they said or did from time to time. It only becomes uncool when its an every day occurance. I think your one of the more rational people I've encountered in blog & forum-villes.

  25. Anger is often about fear.

Yes, the hoped-for spectacle of the Obama campaign imploding and dooming his chances for re-election hasn't happened, and actually looks less likely that I hope for.

Yes, the NY mayor is still trying to gun-control the nation.

Yes, Bill The Cat is still not making a Berkley Breathed comeback.

Yes, Farmer Frank is still annoyed with Blogspot.

Yes, gas prices are rising, as are food prices, and government employment statistics are telling bigger lies as the election draws nearer.

But my #2 pencil still make a mark on my notebook paper, and my magic-rub eraser still removes most of the mark. The sun still rises most days, and in the East, too. Fancy that! And sundowns still look pretty unique, day after day.

At WalMart last night (I work part time), a customer on an inline skate board ran into me. Gangs of hooligan (actually, averagely behaved) high schoolers roamed the aisles, picking up stuff and setting it down a few aisles later -- making extra work for many of us. And, yet, what I recall are the gorgeous infants, ready to make eye contact with anyone, often waving back and smiling, too. Maybe it makes a difference what you look for . . ?

Note to self. Pick up another bottle of St. John's Wort -- mine is down to the last three, even at one every other day.

  29. Go get some exercise.

I know it's hot. Even if you hide in the house and do push-ups and sit-ups on the floor, get some exercise.

Sitting around leads to crankiness. Seriously.

  32. Here in Oklahoma City, it was 112° two days ago. It was 112° yesterday. Today, it was 113°, which ties the all-time record set back on August 11, 1936.

It's about to break, though. The forecast for tomorrow is only 109°.

I think I'll go outside, grill some elk burgers, and sneer at it.

    The Journey

    One day you finally knew
what you had to do, and began,
    though the voices around you
    kept shouting
    their bad advice--
    though the whole house
    began to tremble
and you felt the old tug
    at your ankles.
    "Mend my life!"
    each voice cried.
    But you didn't stop.
You knew what you had to do,
    though the wind pried
    with its stiff fingers
    at the very foundations,
    though their melancholy
    was terrible.
    It was already late
    enough, and a wild night,
and the road full of fallen
    branches and stones.
    But little by little,
as you left their voices behind,
    the stars began to burn
    through the sheets of clouds,
and there was a new voice
    which you slowly
    recognized as your own,
    that kept you company
as you strode deeper and deeper
    into the world,
    determined to do
the only thing you could do--
    determined to save
the only life you could save.

  35. Here in the Pewyet Sound Basin today was summy, about 80F and a light breeze. Get close to water, Lake Washington or the Sound and it is quite cool, especially in the shade. With which commodity we are well endowed.

Most pleasant and the weather prognosticators have consulted the entrails of a sacrificial progressive and say that this weather will continue until next Tuesday when the Weather Gods will require another sacrifice or they will not give us the mist and overcast they hint at.

  36. These days I live in a state of rage. I am in a society where too many people would be happier if I was dead. I am not even considered fully human by far too many people. That's why I am so angry all the time.

So, when I do die, no one will care. There will be no tears shed. And if I die at home, it will be months before anyone even notices.

This is a very unhealthy culture we have turned into.

  37. You talk about angry,I haven't been able to get a job for over 4 years. The outbursts are just below the surface. Tuesday evening when Cherry Pie accused me of not looking for a J-O-B I had the temerity to raise my voice to her. Haven't seen her in 3 days now. OH Well. Evenings are nice and quiet now.

He want's me to take the test with him, but I have mine. So, to make you feel better, (Not to mention, help my 'bud get HIS CCW.) I will re-take my permit class. I hope this helps.
