It keeps me warm.

So, there's one of Caleb's auditioners writing up a field test of a Hi-Point C9, and I'm in the comments being a hater because it's what I do, and none of this is exceptionally unusual or noteworthy, but then! Lo! one of America's undercover retail security specialists shows up in comments to inform us that the elite Mall of America Food Court Team 6 may have transitioned to Hi-Point pistols and carbines from their previous loadout of Model 10s and Mossberg 500s.

Obviously this weapons system is a tactical platform that deserves a closer look, both for dynamic critical incidents as well as static routine ones*. Flawless reliability combined with combat accuracy (as long as you do your part!) is a package that can't be overlooked lightly.

*But not critical dynamic incidents. Or incidental critical dynamics.

  1. For a long time I confused Hi-Points and Hi-Powers. I always wondered how JMB(PBUH) could design such a crappy gun.

    Turns out, he didn't.

  2. The worst gun in my safe, by far, is the Hi-Point 9mm.

    Total POS in every way.

  3. Always good to hear from the "plane clothes" crowd.

Obvious troll is obvious, but it's interesting to see how many people take it seriously. ;)

  5. My Hi-Point C9 is completely reliable - with certain ammo. It does not like the "white box" stuff, but will shoot Blazer all day long without a hiccup.
That being said, it is not the most ergonomically friendly handgun.

  6. Okay, Mr. Plane Clothes was a great guffaw to start my morning. Thanks!

  9. Having used "summon troll", TCinVA retreats to safety so he can watch the mayhem.

  10. I now have a mental picture of 600 million screaming Chinamen, all armed with Hi-Point pistols and carbines....

  11. I'm looking forward to the results.

Understanding how and why something is bad is fascinating to me.

  12. Well to be fair, being handed a Hi-Point does make you want to scream. When the gun shop employee literally tossed it onto the counter a part of me wanted to run from the building screaming "UNCLEAN!!! UNCLEAN!!!!"

  13. Thanks for getting me laughing before the coffee kicked in.

Using ground up Kimbers as cat litter!!! Which model does Huck like to dump on the most?
The Delta Tactical Elite III or the Elite III Delta Tactical?

  14. The Kimber-cat litter thing had me laughing too. Such snark is VERY valuable to those of us who've sold-out to the cube-farm.
Perhaps I can pick up some inexpensive Model 10 turn-ins from MOAFC-6?

  15. Tam Hate is the best kind of hate!

Also the 1,000 round/week "operators" seems to me that they'd just quickly find the operating life of those melted-down matchbox cars!

I mean how many rounds can a hi-point eat before it won't go into battery anymore, or the slide hits you in the knockoff Oakleys?

  16. If you want a good $100 pistol, I suggest buying a Nagant revolver.

It will still be capable of executing uppity Kulaks when your grandchildren inherit it.

You don't have to settle for pot metal crap just because you are poor.

  17. the Tokarev was my preferred iron in the days of my youthful poverty, but then i came along before the profusion of pot metal.

Now they got the "mall Ninja" on their review staff

  21. Hi Point's are preferred when stalking the Dillard's perfume department. If your gun slips from you Cordura retention holder, it will shatter on the granite tile without leaving a mark.

  22. Just seeing the name Gecko45 cracked me up. They should call that "Return of the Mall Ninja"

  23. I threw you name into the fray Tam because your Blog article about the Hipoint carbine was every so snarky and funny. You are my hero!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Oh. Wow. I needed that.

I think of the Hi Point as sort of a latter-day Liberator, bury today, dig it up come The Day, use it to get a gun...

  25. Rob-

Actually JMB DID design the High Point.

Reciprocating slide, fixed barrel, magazine in grip... pretty much a 1903 Colt.

  26. Because I also function on $100 level

  27. I was totally saving up for a hi-point match pistol and a 1000 yard laser to put on it...but now I might go with the Lorcin hi-grade target match sniper ninja pistol with two 1000 yard lasers instead.

Words I never thought I'd type....even in jest.

And Tam? Your cat would thank you.

  28. The what?

"Mall of America Food Court Team 6"

I live way to damn close to that place that my wonderful bride gets a hankering to go there about once a year!! And you funny Tam!! Ain't no such thing!!
Plus as Medic I covered the Mall sitting at Station 3 on 86th Street way to many times..Place sucked, still does..

"Mall of America Food Court Team 6"

    That's funny...

  29. I sometimes wonder- if the fans of ultra cheap zinc pistols had better spelling and grammar skills, would they be in a position to afford something better?

  31. As everyone knows, that particular elite team, Food Court Six is now known as Mall Security Dev Grp. , headquartered in the coffeeshop at Barnes & Noble. Last seen practicing sentry removal with a spork.

  32. Wandering through a pawn shop today, I saw a hi-Point Sitting next to a nickel plated Tokarev. Prices being similar, I'll take the Toke 1000 times in a row.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Hell, I'd take a Tokarev or a Vz52 over an FN FiveseveN. Better performance, cheaper to feed.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Thanks for that - I was entertained mightily.

"MalSecDevGru: memoirs of an elite security team pepper spray carrier."

Doesn't quite have the same grab as Howard Wasdin's book...which was a good read, by the way.

  36. And the Tokarev was much flatter and less chunky, probably far easier to conceal, and as a (partial) knockoff of a JMB design probably 100 times as reliable.
