Overheard in the Office...

RX: "Huh! The Wizard Oil bridge... It's named after the ad on the side of the old wooden covered bridge it replaced. 'Wizard Oil'!"

Me: "Do you know how many wizards you had to press to get a single 55 gallon drum of that stuff?"

  1. I guess that would depend on the fat content of the wizards in question.

  2. Maybe you could just give'em a little squeeze...

  4. From the list of the ingredients minus the alcohol, it looks like Wizard Oil would make a passable bug repellant to satisfy woodsmen of the late 1800s:

At 100-140 proof, sure wouldn't want to smoke anywhere near a Wizard Oil user, though...perhaps it was an early form of anti-smoking beverage or lotion?

Last thought: thinking about snake-oil salesmen and their assuredly gullible customers reminds me of why we have political parties, too.

  5. I had to learn to live with rough skin. Just couldn't deal with thinking about some factory rendering down all those babies...

  6. To answer the question Tam, if Pratchett's right about the fat content of wizards I'm guessing about three'd make a barrel.

  7. Brings new meaning to the term "virgin" oil too.

  8. You get more oil via heat depolymerization than pressing.

About 80 gallons per metric ton of Wizard.

  9. A barrel of oil is 42 gallons When they quote the spot price of a barrel of oil after the residents of most of the oil producing nations show their lack of civility and ethics, that barrel of oil is 42 gallons. I'm not sure when the 55 gallon drum became common, but we had one in the back yard growing up.

  10. That's "Extra Virgin" - and so, what about "First Cold-Press" - is that a D&D strategy?

  11. Well, from D&D wizards, "extra virgin" is not that rare ...

  12. Heat some wizard oil in a saute pan, add some slice garlic and toadstool mushrooms, stir with the handle end of a wooden spoon.... Magical!

at 80 gallons per metric tone of wizard I'm estimating over a barrel per! are you sure about that?

  14. Most of you seem to thing that wizards are very greasy people - almost as slimy as Bill Clinton.

@ El Capitan: I used to think about that, too. I also wondered if they took the leftovers, dried and ground them to make Baby Powder.

  15. Are you talking old dried up Unix wizards, or young fat Linux wizards?
