- #IfObamaDontWin, there will be subject-verb disagreement.
- I envision ADM Nathman being ushered into an empty room containing only a table, a chair, a Makarov, and one bullet.
- I have, buried somewhere in the detritus on my desk, the bolt handle from an absolutely pristine Argentine 1909 Mauser carbine that I couldn't talk the customer out of drilling & tapping & putting on a bent bolt handle. I has a sad every time I look at it.
I'm not seeing the bent handle thing.
ReplyDeleteIt should link to http://mcthag.blogspot.com/2012/09/purity.html
ReplyDeleteWell, it certainly seems to... but I fail to understand what the AR and rumpled bed have to do with a bent handle on an Argentine...
ReplyDeleteMaybe because I'm a guy and a gunsmith, I'm not getting it.
*sigh* it's all with the rioting again. off to load magazines.....
ReplyDeleteAnon 10:06,
ReplyDelete" I fail to understand what the AR and rumpled bed have to do with a bent handle on an Argentine..."
Either the guy's blog is down, or if you wait for it to load more than just his background image, it will come up with a post about sporterizing rifles and the Krag that was recently desecrated on TV.
Would that we could count on the Admiral to have a sense of shame ... dude was speaking at the DNC; you think he's got any scruples?
ReplyDeleteIn an effort to be fair, i wonder if ADM Nathman ever saw what was going to be displayed behind him before he gave his speech AND (being a Submarine Type Sailor)wondering if Surface Type Officers ever need to be able to visually identify Surface Combatants or if that is taken care of for them by the Enlisted Types who Specialize in such thing. (On Submarines, it's the Officer of the Deck who's responsible for Visual Identification through the Periscope, but even then, he's already had input from Sonar and ESM...)
ReplyDeleteThat being said, I REALLY would like to know who chose Images of the Russian Black Sea Fleet and what appears to be Iranian F-5's to honor OUR troops. It's not like the Defense Department doesn't have literally MILLIONS of Images available free of charge to use for such things...

Considering who the Secretary of the Navy is, I'm surprised they didn't put up Photos of the "Green Bio-Fuel" Transfer Tanks.
ReplyDeleteAlso, wouldn't a Nagant Revolver be more appropriate?
TT-33 Tokarev.
ReplyDeleteHold on... I'm kind of remembering another incident of this kind from the recent Whitehouse. Again it was was stock picture. Maybe I'm dreaming.
ReplyDeleteTone deafness is the LEAST of their problems, but picture issues like this are the manifestation.
What is this??

KM,
ReplyDeleteWell, he probably doesn't want to offend anybody from Arizona or Tennessee.
#IfObamaDontWin, there will be subject-verb disagreement.
ReplyDeleteIs this connected to that strike by teachers in Chicago?
Or just people who don't like subject-verb agreement?
I am an enthusiastic but amateur collector of military rifles. But I am not a purist. I understand why Mausers and 1903's were cut up back in the 50's and 60's. Even today sporterized Swede Mausers will bring about the same money as an original M96 or M38. And I'm skeptical the Mosin-Nagants now being brought in will ever attain significant value. Just too many of them, and almost all are aresenal refinished to a typical Soviet standard.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I think the kind of person who would sporterize an original Krag (or 1903, or K98k) at this point, well, I think they KNOW what they have is valuable and desirable. And they WANT to destroy it. Does anybody remember the Chappele show skit where Dave ate the million dollar dinosaur egg? Same kind of mentality.

ReplyDeleteI click on the link and it's his fault - makes perfect sense.
My legislators strike again....

I am feeling under the weather today, and dreading what Obamacare will bring.
ReplyDeleteI keep thinking Obamacare will be run by the same people that were in charge of the DNC convention backdrops, who care as much for my rights as the Cairo embassy and by workers with the devotion to duty of the Chicago teachers union.
It's the only reason I haven't modified the sight on my Arisaka T30 carbine, even though it shoots ridiculously high. It just seems wrong, somehow, to violate history that way.
ReplyDeleteMa'am, you were making me feel all gloomy and grumpy, so I decided to spin a Sousa disc or two. After listening to "Hail to the Spirit of Liberty" and "Daughters of Texas", I feel all better and quite mellow. You should try it. That Pop music is bad for you, you know. Destroys the brain, and all.
ReplyDeleteThose laws are exactly why I have that disclaimer on my blog.
ReplyDeleteBedwetting is why I have the adult content warning too even though R rated language is all that's "adult" about my little blog.
P.s. One of the Sousa discs has "Fairest of the Fair" on it, obviously written with Our Tam in mind. Sousa was probably thinking about Roberta when he wrote "The Free Lance."
ReplyDeleteYes, I know, Sousa didn't know what would happen in his future, but it all just fits too well.
OMG, Tamalanch at my place.
ReplyDeleteJust checked my stats. 630 views for "Purity", on average I get 17 for any other post.
Wowzer.
I once had a Swede Mauser that shot a foot high at 100 yards, the longest range I had access to. Hated the idea of putting on a taller post because I have a tendency to lose small things like that; so I (very)carefully soldered a piece onto the top of the post(Swedes have a flat top) and filed & blued it to match. Worked perfectly.
ReplyDeleteNow I'd try to find a taller post and bag, label and set in the proper box the original, but at the time seemed the best path to take.
Firehand, I have a T99 front blade that would have to be filed down quite a bit to fit under the T30's front sight guards, my plan was to drill a hole, tap it and put a long setscrew in it for a front sight and then tag and bag the original. Of course in that configuration I wouldn't be able to shoot it in the Vintage Military Bolt Action Rifle matches...but I doubt the target would notice either way.
