ReplyDeleteThe problem with the set of "murders committed by a murderer known to the victim" is that the set of murderers and murder victims is almost entirely composed of people in the illegal drugs business.
So, far from the gun-banner's image of me getting mad at Uncle Edwin over a rules infraction during the weekly family Monopoly game and offing him by means of busted cap, most of the crimes in this set are the result of a difference of opinion among professional criminals.
Owning a firearm does not automatically make a dealer of illegal drugs out of me, so statistics based on this population are not likely to predict my outcomes.

Closely overlapping circles there. Interesting how the gun grabbers and the media don't want to consider the probability that the family member/friend/acquaintance is a criminal shot in the commission of his crime. The truth doesn't fit the narrative, I guess.

ReplyDelete@Steve Skubinna: The outside (non-overlapping) portion of that third circle can correctly be labeled, "People who live in a place where 'it can't happen'". The "wing" that overlaps with the "you shouldn't own a gun because..." circle will have the label you gave. The other "wing" would be labeled, "People who think you're an inbred redneck" (it overlaps the "victimized by a family member" and the "support gun ownership" circles).

Given that this story is about a family member who obscured his face and attacked his father out of the bushes, I think you know what we think should be done about that.

Hmm. Here in St Louis last month we had a 43 year old nephew kill his 44 year old uncle in an argument over which specific cut of pork was on the barbecue grill. That certainly fits the guns kill family meme. News of this incident has been conspicuously short. One can only wonder what else the miscreant was involved in previously. The nephew, by the way, was correct; they were grilling pork steaks.
