I laughed so hard I cried...

"Oh, great, I just had my pyjamas pressed and now this dwarf comes charging down the hallway!"
I have no idea where this originated, but I found it here. (EDIT: I should have known! How did I miss it back then?)

You've come a long way baby: Ninety-nine years in the future, you're going to be holding a cordless phone and cowering behind some moussed goober with a Belgian plastic .22.

  1. The bottom pic (what a great add from Savage!) reminds me that I wonder why feminists are not ardently pro-gun. IF one takes the reflexive view that ours is a patriarchical society in which no woman is safe from male oppression ranging from lewd jokes to rape, then doesn't it make sense for women to have an equalizer ready to hand?

  3. That overpriced 22 magnum managed to kill quite a few people at Ft. Hood. Most of which were in fine physical health at the time.

  4. Robert,

.22LR has killed a bunch of people, too. It's still not the way to bet.

  5. I had thought that, having read the larger subtext about "You girls run and hide...", that I was okay. I smiled, took a bite of my charro beans and rice, and read "'Oh, great, I just had my pyjamas pressed and now this dwarf comes charging down the hallway!'", and while trying to keep things from getting all 'splodey on my monitor, I about aspirated legume and grain.

    For shame! :)

(Maybe he's at the top of the stairwell?)

  6. Is Ft. Hood the new mouse caliber defense? I suppose it's a nice change from being told how I don't want to stand downrange while someone fires .22LR, .32ACP, 2mm pinfire, etc. at me.

  7. I wonder if the dwarf was screaming "Verboten!" when he charged him?

Agreed, Tam. A quarter inch hole through yer lungs does a body little good. The lowly .22lr does kill more people in this country than any other round ... it just takes a while.

As for pajama man, the last time I had to confront a burglar in my own house, I was wearing an autopistol, and nothing else.

( Burglar jumped off our second story balcony at a dead sprint. Our downstairs neighbor was unhappy about the huge dent Mr. Burglar left in his car hood when he bounced off of it on his way out. )

  8. docjim505, the true feminists are pro-gun.
The "Feminist" organizations do not exist to support women, they exist to support the Democratic party and liberalism in general.
That is why the National Organization of Women supported Bill Clinton and the N.O.W. president, whose name I have mercifully forgotten, said she would have given him oral sex just for keeping abortion legal. She also said, "We should all put on our presidential knee pads and head to the oval office."
A woman needs NOW like a chicken needs Col. Sanders.

  9. Dave: .22lr beats bare fists all to hell.

I guarantee you that you will outrun any martial artist after you put a half dozen rounds in his lungs, no matter how fat or old you may happen to be.

Yes, it's not capable of stopping instantly unless you put one in an eye-socket. But it's still a gun. It still drills quarter inch holes through people.

Heck! I'd be very reluctant to stand downrange of a .177 break barrel too.

...I hear tell they've been known to kill hogs.

  11. You know, I actually want a FiveseveN, but every time I pick one up I'm like "a grand for this airsoft toy?" and wander down to look at the other, more substantial guns that can be had for $1000. they need to drop the price by half, and introduce a second model more in line with the SmithenGlockenSpringfield.

  17. Let me just say right off that I'm not trying to be trollish or anything. Just trying to have a discussion. From what I can see Mr. Hasan-chop fired ~200 rounds, which resulted in 30 wounded and 13 killed. Don't know how many of those were multiple hits on the same target as I couldn't find that data. Out of the 13 deaths, 11 died where they were shot. Most all that were hit went down immediately. I'm just saying that I think that a 22LR (or magnum) would not have had the same results. I guess that they were lucky that Mr. Terrorist was a pretty poor shot, even with a red and a green laser sight.

  18. Ahem, in the last ninety-nine years they've added a LIGHT!

And the girls have taken the prudent step of sending a proxy out to soak up bad-guy ammo. He'd have a real gun if they didn't intend for him to be a bullet sponge.

  19. Damned sexist women. Ninety-nine years ago they weren't too precious to shoot their own dwarves. Now it's all "Joel, come shoot the dwarf in the hallway. I'm on the phone." Sweartagod if I get dwarf blood on my new pressed pajamas there'll be no quiche for her for a whole week.

  20. @Kristophr:

With .22LR, shot placement is key. For bear, placing a .22LR round in your hiking buddy's kneecap is optimal.

  21. .22 Mag with some of the newer bullets, like the Hornady 45-grain HP or the Speer 40-grain Gold Dot, would probably be pretty damn nasty.

What I would choose for a primary defense round? No; especially if I couldn't handle heavier cartridges, it would beat bloody hell out of nothing.

Which doesn't change that I laugh my ass off every time I see that pic.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Bwahahahahahaa! Do you ever feel stupid when you literally laugh out loud when no one else is around?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Yeah....... if I wanted a hi-cap .22mag. auto,(which I wouldn't turn down,btw) I'd take what FN wants for the five-seven and get a Kel-tec PMR-30 & spend the difference on spare mags and ammo. Or, Taurus makes a nice .22 D/A revolver w/dual cylinders. 8 shot, iirc.

  24. When I read the line about the dwarf, the first thing came to mind was "a Lannister always pays his debts," but I'm dipped if I can figure out how to work it into the commend casual-like. :-)

  25. Well shit..... I think I'll just cover the choke point with my little 870. 00 buck makes such a permanant end to felony. I can't comment on the plastic pistol I don't own one. Got a nice 4in. S&W .357 mag. , It too make such nice holes in badness.

  26. You're all misreading the whole situation.

Mom's only mildly concerned, but see the look of horror on the little girl's face? That's the look of a child afraid daddy is going to break her toy.

  27. Is that Ben Stiller in the photo?

  28. You're missing the defensive intent.
Said intruder would be so distracted laughing his ass off at the integrated flashlight and pinhole projectile aperture that macho dad could then subtly nudge him back out the door.

The daughter's face is that of horror, thinking what her friends will say when they hear about dad's defining moment.

Mom, well, she's just slightly concerned. After all, she broke off engagement with a man sporting a Derringer. At least this guy was an upgrade, but not quite the .357 magnum she fantasizes Mr. Grey has strapped to his inner thigh. She's not dialing 911, but ready to speed dial a booty call with a high school flame when hubby gets his ass handed to him. He may not satisfy her, but all the gunplay got her motor running and momma willl need some satisfaction to quench the urge.

  29. Could be worse. Could be holding a freaking ADT sign.

    *Intruder! Leave immediately!*

  31. Daddy's sick of your god damned whining, kids. He's going to touch off a 50,000 PSI cartridge from a short barrel in a narrow hallway so he doesn't have to hear it anymore.

  33. Leaving aside the Caliber Choice and the Implied Sexism, from a Tactical Stand Point this Ad is Stupid. A) Why is Daddy standing out in the Open with a Light showing "Aim Here?" (Yes there's a Place for the Gun Light, but if Daddy needed to see the Target, couldn't he just use the Light Switch for the Stairs, which, judging from the Angle, he is at the Top of?). There's a nice Doorway with a Frame he can use as partial Cover. B) Why is Mommy and Daughter even in the Doorway? Are they supposed to be catching the Return Fire?

  35. Not trying to force the 5.7x28mm on anyone, but I think it's performance on more than a couple of heroic troops at Fort Hood, that tried to stop the nut case with bare hands or improvised weapons, is more than sufficient evidence that it works okay at least.

I personally rate it as roughly comparable to 38+P or 9mm +P, or in other words as weak of a caliber that I would normally recommend for defensive use.

I know of two cases were a single round of 5.7x28 from a pistol broke a femur.

One was the first responding LEO to the Ft Hood Shooting.

Another was male VCA fighting with store employee, one shot to femur broke it and turned VCA into a passive criminal.

Heard about second case from a responding LEO.

As an Anthropologist that studied forensics a little, I know the femur is generally considered the strongest bone in the body.

One or two other bones in the skull that are very hard to break short of car or machine accident, in part because of their location and support from other structures.

The Pelvic girdle is very strong as well, but that isn't a single bone, but a collection of bones.

Side note, NYPD stakeout squad found that even the lowly 148 grain target wadcutter 38 special load (used by some squad members because of over penetration concerns) would drop bad guys on the ground reliably.

I asked Mas about that specifically in a class, and he thought for a minute and mentioned specific case he wrote about in Stressfire II Advanced Combat Shotgun (page 12 in my copy), where VCA took two rounds of OO Buckshot in the chest, though first shot broke window on way to badguy.

That is 18 pellets of OO Buck, but VCA was still mobile and holding weapon, started to leave, so second officer shot him in the ass, because of shot angle and open door, with 148 grain wadcutter, and it was that shot that knocked VCA down.

The cop with 12 gauge saw that the VCA was trying to push himself back to his feet, so he shot him a 3rd time with OO buck.

Make of that what you will.

My conclusions from studying NYPD stakeout squad were to use Slugs in shotguns, they switched to pure slugs after a bit of experience on the street with buckshot, use long guns not handguns whenever possible, and to prefer higher capacity guns.

Since often they would empty a standard capacity 4+1 round 12 gauge pump, drop that and draw and empty 1911 or revolver before fight was over.

And lastly to carry at least two guns, and practice New York Reload (ie drawing second gun instead of reloading or malf clearance).

    YMMV

  36. Meh. If I need a twenty shot pistol, I've got a five-shot extension on one of the magazines for my .40 caliber M&P. Of course, if I needed that many shots and I'm at home, I've got a perfectly serviceable AR close to hand.

  37. I finally get it!

The actions of a traitorous monster show that the 5.7x28mm is a man stopper extraordinaire! Because fleeing victims are the EXACT SAME THING as a charging assailant! No difference what so ever. Adrenalin doesn't change the equation at all. How determined your assailant is… its completely immaterial!

But since The Nazis murdered a bunch of unarmed victims with 9x19mm ball... THAT must be the ultimate stopper.!!!!11!!eleventy!!

Wait! The flu of 1918 killed more victims than WWI!!! All I need is a cold!

I don't hate the round; I hate the pricks that hype the murder of unarmed people as a valid defense of their chosen talisman.

All rounds kill, all rounds fail to stop. Placing faith in any cartridge is immature in the extreme. Stroking one's ego by defending their chosen cartridge using the actions of a traitorous monster is outright pathetic. Gun fighting is about fighting; not about the gun, not about preening, and sure as hell not about telling the internet how *you* made the right cartridge choice.
