  1. Ok, I officially hate you. It's time for me to go to bed and I now have that stupid song stuck in my head. I suppose that having watched the show in it's first run may have something to do with it.

  2. They restored it pretty well.

  3. Roy: Each atom painstakingly superglued back in place, one at a time, with the using a really big magnifying glass and the teeniest pair of tweezers you ever did see ...

  7. TECH QUIZ!

    What's the black "paint" for?

  8. I actually like that paint scheme. Makes it look "Festive"

  9. My best guess after hitting the google is that it's a sealant.

  10. Sealant, or rotational reference?

It is truly amazing what could be built with an arc welder and a slide rule almost 70 years ago. Unfortunately, a reliable electric car still a futuristic dream.

  11. You fondled that?

    You're braver than I thought.

  12. You're not a REAL Atomic Tourist until you've walked the ground at Trinity, looked at the perimeter fence around the crater site, and thought "...and this was a LITTLE one!".

  16. And I've carried and moved and kicked and tripped over a set of blades off the Enola Gay more times than I care to remember. Stuffed them into a corner out of the way for the time being. Trying to work a deal with the CAF to put them on display in FiFi's Hanger.

  17. If I remember correctly, the Fat Man and Little Boy models at the AAF Museum here in Dayton are painted Olive Drab. Was just thinking this morning that I need to go there again...now I have a "real" reason. Hehehehe

Anyone get in the general area, the AAF Museum is awesome...and mostly free.

  18. Oh...and BocksCar is here as well.

  19. And before anyone jumps on my...I know it's the USAF Museum. Army Air Force just seems to automatically pop out when I'm thinking of WW2 planes.

  22. I had a docent at the USAF Armament Museum in Floriduh photograph me with my arm around their engineering mockup of the Fat Man.

He wasn't impressed with the humor. Seems like almost every middle-aged, fat, white guy does the same... :^)'

  23. There's also the Atomic Testing Museum, an affiliate of the Smithsonian, in Las Vegas. It's pretty neat history. Check it out if you go to Sin City...

I may have met him once, but I am unsure. I remember where it was, but how fast he was moving, less so. Or is it how fast he was moving, and less so exactly where he was?

  25. LCB, I occasionaly correspond with an autistic gal who attends Wright State University, pursuing an engineering degree. Sadly, it seems that her autistic perseverations, unlike mine, do not include Aerophilia, or the Love of Airplanes.

I don't think she has ever been out to Wright Field to look at the pretty airplanes. I just don't, and can't, understand people like that.

I can't wait to get to Warner Robins again and hug, and pet, some old bombers.

  26. P.s. The Air Force Museum has a magnificent collection of model airplane magazines, dating back into the thirties.

Unfortunately, due to the War On A Noun, ordinary folks are no longer allowed to enter the archives there, and peruse them.

Seems like they are trying to keep their best friends and best supporters away from them. Silly doodahs!

  27. Waaaayyyy back in Jehmy Carter's time, I was in highschool...and decided to do a report on the B-1 bomber. Don'tchaknow that students writing reports can access the archives??? Can't remove anything...but you can make copies. I got a whole day out of school to drive from Hamilton to Dayton for my...cough cough...report. I may have also looked at an old plane or two. :-)

Viewed from the side when in a nose down attitude, it would look like a smiley face.
