No particular reason for the post, except that I can't believe nobody's used such a gimme of a title in the Adrian Schoolcraft case.
Keep the Schoolcraft case in mind when people are encouraging more proactive government intervention in mental health. I don't mean to go all Godwinski, but you know who had a really good system of state mental health facilities? The Soviet Union, that's who. They were really good at diagnosing disagreewiththegovernmentosis.
The 7.62x25mm immunization program was also quite effective at preventing new cases.
ReplyDelete+! on Angus and I don't think we've SEEN the real levels of 'intervention' yet...
ReplyDeleteWhy else would DHS need so much ammo, eh?
ReplyDeleteIt's like battered wife syndrome. Yeah, we know the Russkies murdered dissidents, but it'll be different this time...
ReplyDeleteChris,
ReplyDelete"Why else would DHS need so much ammo, eh?"
Only people who are bad at math and who don't shoot much are panicking about that.
It works out to fewer rounds per officer per year than I burned at a two-day pistol class last month,
So they're just not getting in much practice?
ReplyDeleteNot really giving me the warm fuzzies over here...
If Schoolcraft can hang on he will get a tractor trailer full of cash backed up to his door. Word is he turned down a few very lowball offers while the city drags it out. He's got em by the short and curlys and they know it.
ReplyDeleteAngus, the 9x18 was also useful in treating the current patients.
ReplyDeleteNumber Two Son and friend had been shooting my Makarov and were unimpressed with the power as compared to a .45.
I asked them how much pistol you needed to shoot someone tied to a chair.
Log epiphany, 2 each.
There are a *large* number of 72 hour psych admissions, particularly (mostly) for people who are suicidal/borderline suicidal. Nothing too surprising there.
ReplyDeleteOf course the question is whether this is harassment or not. Another question is whether that would be extended beyond cops unpopular with their brass.
To be fair, disagreeing with the Soviet government back in the day truly was an insane thing to do.
ReplyDeleteI hate to agree with the $cientologists about anything, but they did seem to get one thing right; psychiatrists tend to be Statist quacks. They are, of course, wrong about everything else.
ReplyDeleteThis is also kind of personal for me. I used to read and correspond a bit in the Autisphere, and I tellya, if there's anybody who hates a psychiatrist even more, possibly, than does a $cientologist, it's an Autie/Aspie. Yes, I do think I have a touch of the "A".
Bruno Bettelheim's grave is one of the three upon which I most wish to piss.
