Ugh.

Before too long I'm going to need to go clear Winter Storm Euclid off the sidewalks and my roommate's car.

They're calling for 6"-10" of snow between now and nightfall that, judging from the 40-mph winds, is mostly going to be stuck to the sides of trees and houses and slow-moving squirrels.

This is going to be a two-pot-of-coffee morning, I can tell you that.

Also, I don't think the Zed Drei is going to make it into the shop today, dammit.

  1. I found that my Z3 was in no way suited to driving in snow on any sort of a grade or curve. Using the traction control button was an exersize in hilarity as it would cause the car to start humping like sex-starved german shepherd.

  2. Robert,

I've driven the Zed Drei through several Indianapolis winters, and on summer sport tires, too. :)

But eight inches of snow in the alley? We'll just sit this one out.

  3. I've got six inches here and it's 08:30. I'm an hour or so South of you and it ain't letting up by anytime soon. Stay safe and warm inside if you can.

  4. Wait, what?

When did they start naming winter storms?

This has got to be the idea of some idjit in Atlanta.

  5. I just got home from work. Even the main roads were a crawl. The truck is in the single car garage (requiring a shoehorn, several prayers and a curse in Latin). We're not going back out til Friday,

  6. After a few days of screaming "4-6", EIGHT IN SOME PLACES!!", we got maybe a half-inch in OKC(Weather weenie last night:"Yes, it missed us, BUT ONLY BY 30 OR 40 MILES!")
However, there was enough traces of freezing rain combined with melt/refreeze to make the streets surfaces with all the traction of glass with a coat of oil.

  7. Tam, I've been to Indy a few times. I think any grade there would be measured in amounts less than 1%, not like the mountains in NC.

  8. Robert,

I had the Zed Drei when I lived in K-town, too. :)

Oddly, though, it wasn't 'til I moved up here that I really learned to trust the traction control.

  9. We are looking at a 24 Hour Blizzard Warning up here by Lake Erie.

Good thing I stocked up on the Hot Chocolate.

  10. Bubblehead Les,

Yup, this is headed your way, and it ain't even kidding.

It dang near shut the city down. On the south side of town this morning, snowplows were pulling over to let the whiteout subside before they resumed plowing...

  11. Why am I envisioning you clearing things in geometric patterns...just for the 'meta' Tam-snark.

  12. They even closed the IU mothership down today, maybe the third time I've seen that in 25 years.

I excavated my driveway and had about 16" or so, my street isn't plowed yet and that'll mean another trudging out to clear what the truck pushes into my nice, clear driveway. Glad I don't have anywhere to go and a pot of beans on. Now where's that cornbread recipe?

  13. Where's the pool on what's wrong with Tamera's car? I'm betting on the Idle Air Control. A small device held on with no more than 2 screws, you take it off and clean the plunger and seat with something that removes powder residue from guns. 12 ga brush for the seat. Easier than cleaning a Ruger Mk II and goes back together without requiring you to do a back flip.

The hard part is figuring out where they put it.

  14. When did we start naming winter storms?

It's a blizzard. Just like the last one. Up here in northern Ill-i-noise we get one or two good ones blow through in any given year. Just deal with it.
