She certainly ranks as one of the few great international leaders of my lifetime. Churchill was still alive when I was young, but I only really learned much about him later. Thatcher was in her prime at a time when I could comprehend that she was one of the good ones.

Maybe no one could carry her purse now, but if she was still around she could certainly carry John Major's or Tony Blair's purses, along with giving them a lecture about how improper it is for a man to pretend that it's called a 'clutch'. And then some. The Youtube would be viral in nanoseconds and hilarious to boot.
I'll cherish the times of seeing her on the news, really enjoy her quotable quotes, and hope & pray that someday her country will see the error of the collective ways and perhaps head back to what it once was: a place where the world expected to find one such as Margaret Thatcher as PM.

...unless, of course, you're Irish and grew up Catholic with relatives in the northern counties, in which case the love-in isn't quite so warm-and-fuzzy. All the post-mortem attaboys don't quite wash out the memories of 12-year old cousins being raped and the culprits being given medals personally by the miserable dried-up lumbering freemartin herself for their part in 'maintaining the peace.' Long may she rot in hell, and I hope with all my heart that the justice she escaped from in this world waits for her in the next.

I've seen an ordinarily mild-mannered British expat go berserk after hearing praise for her from someone who was still in diapers back then.
He poured scorn on everything.. from her policies(see here for example .. http://neilharding.blogspot.cz/2005/10/20-reasons-why-i-hate-thatcher.html ) to her phoniness- she tried to mimic English spoken by toffs, but couldn't quite pull it off..
Thus, you get comments from Britons like:
"You could call her a cunt but most would argue that she lacked the warmth and depth."
She was trying to save the Brits from themselves. They mostly resented that. Some Irish people just can't quit on the Anglo-hate. It ain't about religion, really. The problem started about 800 years ago when a minor Irish king invited the king of England in to help him in a dispute with a neighor. The English never left, of course.
We were all good Roman Catholics back then, both English and Irish.
A lot of people seem to have decided over the years that my blog, on which I sometimes talk about guns, is a "gun blog". I don't usually get too fussy about correcting them because it's a generally harmless error.
But Tam, yer main Special Interest (the polite term for Autistic Perseveration) seems to be all about Smith and Wesson revolvers, with hardly a mention of the Colt pieces!
Oh, I do miss Maggie. I remember her sitting right next to Gorbachev in the same pew in our National Cathedral for Ronald Reagan's funeral.
I remember the USAF Band playing good old-fashioned hymns at the California part of Ron's funeral, too. When it comes to that, the finest Aeolian-Skinner ain't even in it, compared to a good military band.
Shame what happened to the formerly great Britain. God hold the Iron Lady in the hollow of His mighty hand.
