Me: "He lives in the Upper Peninsula; the only part of Michigan where I'd want to live..."The linked site came to my attention via the comments section at Brian J. Noggle's blog. Every now and again Bobbi gets the urge for a Model A and goes and has a lie-down 'til it goes away.
RX: "Yeah."
Me: "Worst come to worst, you could blow the bridges, build a wall along the Wisconsin border, and wait for the relief column to get there from Montana."
Freaking yoopers.
ReplyDeleteGreat... now I've got an urge to watch "Escanaba in da Moonlight" again.
I love da UP! I was born a troll, but I've never had a bad time north of the bridge.
ReplyDeleteNow I want a pastie.
Wall off da cheeseheads, and your relief column is going to have to swim across the lake.
ReplyDeleteIt appears the guy actually lives
ReplyDeletein Northern Michigan, a place
with it's own charms, but quite
different the Da U.P, eh?
I drove eight hours from the U.P. to get to Central Lake, about 30 miles north of Traverse City. The Second Chance Bowling Pin Shoot was held in Central Lake and I attended every June for 10 years.
Some darn Canadians from Ontario
only had to drive four hours.
Nice Model A. I saw one cruising on US 41 just this morning.
Now that you mention it, I'd be grateful to learn RX's opinion of the bit of "obsolete but still functional" technology I sent her way a few weeks ago.

Yoopers are hard to beat!
ReplyDeleteI like it -- the return loss abac is epecially nice. The circular slipstick is super-fun and good...but, ::sigh::, runs up against mechanical accuracy issues by the first decimal place.
ReplyDeleteSummer in the UP is really nice especially when it falls on a weekend.
ReplyDeleteHis Model A gets better gas mileage than my '72 Satellite. :-/
ReplyDeleteHey.... you don't need to wall all of us off, just Madison.
ReplyDeleteYou'd have a difficult time walling off my buddy's cabin on the one side from his hunting land on the other.
ReplyDeleteIf you're ever in the Milwaukee area and want a ride in a '30 coupe's rumble seat, hit me up.
I know a guy in MA who drives a minty '32 Dodge.
ReplyDeleteIn only 4 more years my Lee-Enfield will be a century old. Still shoots just fine.
ReplyDeleteBuild it to work, build it to last, and guess what? The thing will work, and will last.
Roberta,
ReplyDeleteIf it's accuracy to three significant figures you're looking for, it turns out the "curiosity" I did up for you is still being new-made:

Current asking price is 2,200 yen, which works out to about $22.50, not counting postage.
I've got a very small model from them. It's cute as hell and well made, but not as easy to use as a full-sized one.
