Somewhat related, the tale of the Air Force showing a near-death Jack Northrop a scale model of (what would become) the B-2 will never fail to mist my eyes up.
In the original movie version of War of the Worlds...I love how they use a YB-49 to bomb the martians...cause it was "the future" of the Air Force or something. Way cool...and way ahead of it's time.
I love the B-2...but I wonder how many B-1's they could have built for the same money...or how many B-52's they could have rebuilt. Just cause you CAN do something...doesn't mean it makes sense to do it...
Ooh, I loves me some weird wonderful dangerous airplanes. Did you know, that with some strategic folding and snipping, ans a bit of ballast, you can make an excellent glider out of a Hollerith card?
