Listening to Diane Rehm on Monday, I heard a caller ask why Zimmerman got out of his truck after being ordered not to by the police. Not a single one of the guests on the show, including Erich Pratt, pointed out that wherever this particular sequence of events took place, it wasn't in this dimension*. And who can blame them? Listen to Juan Williams...
His recounting of what he thinks happened shows how the version of the narrative ("Martin, who was told by the police to not get out of his car, got out of his car and followed Trayvon, caught him, started a fight and shot Trayvon when he lost...") promulgated by the media and flatly contradicted by the actual, physical facts, has taken root in the mind of America.
*I did. I yelled "That is a lie! That never happened!" at the dashboard a few times before starting to gnaw on the steering wheel in frustration. It was like the voices in my radio were gaslighting me. Luckily, I was stationary in the drive-thru line at the bank, so the car didn't veer off the road or anything.
I get the same thing at work. Co-workers who admit that they haven't "paid much attention" to the case will swear (based apparently on a half-heard sound bite) to all the lies being spread by the media. I was polite about correcting them at first, but . . .
ReplyDeleteAce nailed it, when he called it the "Weaponized Media".
ReplyDeleteIt's aimed dead-on at us, and has been for decades.

At least being in line at the bank, chewing on the steering wheel would not be so noticeable.
ReplyDeleteAt this point people have the narrative in their heads. if they have the wrong one it is too late for them.
The rest of use need to rally round the wagons and prepare for our last stand.
I had a similar reaction driving home from work just now. My branch of National Communist Radio was relating how Holder is using the tragedy of Martin's death to address the horrible Stand Your Ground laws that allowed Zimmerman to walk free. It was literally all I could do to not scream at the radio for giving carte-blanche robo-reporting to a highly ranked federal official's deliberate lies and exploitation of the death of a young man to further his anti-gun, anti-responsibility, pro-thug agenda. The more I listen to NPR the deeper I descend into a seething cauldron of hate and spite.
ReplyDelete"The rest of use need to rally round the wagons and prepare for our last stand."
ReplyDeleteMelodrama much?
Yeah, I was virtually yelling at the radio last night as well.
ReplyDeleteLet's just go to, two pundits enter, one pundit leaves.
ReplyDeleteThen I might start watching this trash.
Gerry
I'm glad I'm not the only one that yells at the radio.
ReplyDeleteI'm also glad this was taking place before I crossed the Indiana state line, when a loaded firearm magically appears in the truck, because I would have elvised the radio in a new York minute.
I don't gnaw on the steering wheel. I touch that thing with my hands, and I know where my hands have been.
Likewise, Sarah Palin is believed by most Americans to have uttered the words actually spoken by Tina Fey in skits mocking her.
ReplyDeleteWe are a sad, sad nation that swallows media pabulum without chewing, then allow it to ferment into truth in our guts.
Tam, are you starting to develop "that crazy gun-and-cat lady" image in Indy?
ReplyDelete"Shouldn't have gotten out of the truck after being ordered not to."
ReplyDeleteIrrelevant. No legal justification to pound a man's head into the pavement.
"Shouldn't have been pursuing/chasing/following Trayvon."
Irrelevant. No legal justification to pound a man's head into the pavement.
"Insert Zimmerman/Martin myth here."
Irrelevant. No legal justification to pound a man's head into the pavement.
Bottom line is that had Zimmerman not shot Martin, Sanford PD would have been arresting Martin for assault, because nothing Zimmerman was even rumored to have done is a legal justification for the level of force Martin used.
Hannity did point it out. He said that the dispatcher asked "where it's he now?" And Zimmerman was walking back to his truck when he was told not to follow him.
ReplyDeleteI like that angry guy! He's got some fire, and he's not wrong.
"Melodrama mcuh?"
ReplyDeleteTam, you do realize we may be on the verge of a race war...don't you? Just think of Holder and Co. trying to pull a Ruby Ridge or Waco on Zimmerman and his family. I think the Zimmerman family is too smart and well-funded to let that happen if it can possibly be avoided, but don't think for a second that the progressives wouldn't go for it if they could.
"Tam, you do realize we may be on the verge of a race war...don't you?"
ReplyDeleteDude, it's July. A scorching heat wave. And they haven't even managed to drum up a good riot yet.
How does this even begin to compare to '92, let alone '67 or '68?
And with the internet being what it is today, I'm fairly certain that a second Ruby Ridge would result in significantly more bloodshed (and rightfully so). It nearly went down that way at the bridge as it was. Only the fact that the law enforcement officials at the bridge were considered to be fellow locals kept things from going sideways. With the strong pro-freedom stance I have been seeing from a good number of Sheriff's Departments and some State Police lately, I don't think they would be as likely to comply with the Feds and act as a buffer between the outraged citizens and the Feds.
ReplyDeleteYou are correct...it is fortunately true that they haven't been able to drum up a riot, but they are still trying with all of their might and that warrants concern.
ReplyDeleteThings are just as bad as they were '92, they're just a whole lot better at hiding it. Several of the key actors of the time a back and running things (Holder and Napolitano among others). In '67 and '68 I didn't see the gov't actively trying to inflame things -quite the opposite actually. Domestic inflammation at that time was getting in the way of their other goings on. Your opinion may differ of course, depending on where you were and what you were doing.
ReplyDelete"Things are just as bad as they were '92, they're just a whole lot better at hiding it."
ReplyDeleteReally? LA is burning to the ground and they've deployed the Marines? Huh. They sure are hiding it well, then.
Anon:
ReplyDeleteAin't going to happen. No Turner Diaries for you.
The left likes to paint opponents as racists, but as long as conditions on the Democratic Party's mendicant voter plantation stay good, the most they can muster is desultory rock throwing and looting.
We are winning. Most states have victim's rights statutes ( perps can't sue victims ), strong self defense laws, and must issue CCW laws.
Including Illinois, apparently (!).
The left is starting to lose, the free shit army can't do much other than pull a voting lever once in a while.
Best tweet I have seen
ReplyDelete“Of all the young black shooting victims in this country, you can name 1. Because you’ve been trained like a circus seal to bark on command.”
Oh, and i sent this tip in to the DoJ anti-Zimmerman tip line:
ReplyDelete"I had heard that the Z in Zimmerman actually stood for Zombie, and that he was a member of the shambling undead.
He should be investigated to determine if he really is metabolically challenged."
"He should be investigated to determine if he really is metabolically challenged."
ReplyDeleteAwesome! :D
BillB: Hey, I can name at least 3 off the top of my head who aren't named "Trayvon".
ReplyDeleteOf course, those three were shot by the police, so it's entirely possible that I've just got a different circus training me.
... and this is why I ignore the media.
ReplyDeleteBecause I don't like being made incandescently angry by plain falsehoods.
(I'd call them "lies", but typically the idiots repeating them for the microphone don't actually know any better.
And then there's the irony of the people I've seen repeating that on Facebook all making fun of the idea that "low information voters" are on their side.
Oh, irony.)
This post gives me hope that not everyone in America is blided by the media repeating the big lie often and loudly.
ReplyDeleteI think I know why, in spite of the best efforts of the Obama Administration and the Professional Racists like Al Sharpton, the Inner Cities are not a pile of Smoldering Ruins (exceptions for Detroit, which seems to be a city of Cold Ashes and Oakland, where they only Riot on days ending in "Y").
ReplyDeleteNo Video.
Think back to the Rodney King Riots. Remember how the MSM kept showing the last 10 seconds over and over and over (but somehow couldn't find the time to show the whole thing where he was fighting off a dozen Cops)?
What have people SEEN? Another Boring Trial.
If this was a Summer Reality TeeWee Show, it would have Cancelled after 3 weeks.
It's not 20 years ago. We live in the Kardashian Age. And unless a Talking Head is a Former Beauty Queen, the only ones who care are the 5% who pay attention.
The thing that gets me is the "ordered not to follow by the police" shtick that the media keeps parroting.
ReplyDelete1) "we don't need you to do that" isn't an order. " don't do that." Is. The dispatcher used the former.
2) a 911 operator has as much authority over a caller as a 900 operator does.
"a 911 operator has as much authority over a caller as a 900 operator does." There has got to be a "no pants" joke in that somewhere.
ReplyDelete"The press should be not only a collective propagandist and a collective agitator, but also a collective organizer of the masses." - Vladimir Lenin
ReplyDeleteAnd boy, *are* they!!!
Seems to me that the Feds did some learning at Ruby Ridge and Waco, too. They just pulled the same sort of stunt at TJIC's girlfriend's place, without bloodshed, tanks, or tear gas. The disparity of force was similar, the government ignoring the Constitution was the same, and the trampling of the rights of a free person was pretty much the same except that - although they certainly brought plenty of their own guns - there was no shooting this time. And, the government made themselves look better to their media on this most recent one. So yes, society has learned from such things as Waco and Ruby Ridge, but so has the government.
ReplyDeleteI agree that it seems like most of society has yet to give a true rat's patoot about the Zimmerman verdict, at least not in the riotous way some would like them to 'care'. There is no LA riot, there is no Plainfield, Watts or Detroit from the 60s. The general vibe seems to be "Oh yeah, well...it's too friggin' hot to riot. Call me later."
On other matters, what society has obviously refused to learn - at least the mouthy ones allowed to monopolize most of the press have refused to learn, or are propagating the myth on purpose - is that we don't have a 'justice' system in this country. The latest trial was in no way about 'justice' for Martin. No such criminal trial is about justice for a victim. Every summons I've ever written, every warrant and affidavit I've had to fill out or execute, has ended with the phrase "against the peace and dignity of the state". The process is not about justice at all. The jury quite plainly found that Zimmerman killing Martin for whatever the reason might have been in whatever the circumstances could have been, did not offend the peace and dignity of the state.
Obviously some folks do not like that idea, but most likely it is because they don't understand the idea at all. Not understanding the idea or process and yet loudly proclaiming your ill-formed opinion on the matter in every available venue seems to be all some folks have for a career nowadays. Sadly, some of those idiots are paid quite well to be such idiots. Which of course breeds more of the same.
The big lie theory is alive and well, and
ReplyDeleteanything is possible if you don't know what you're talking about.
After they prohibited waterboarding at Guantanamo, they found that making detainees listen to Diane Rehm had a similarly productive effect
