Since sometime yesterday morning I have been completely absorbed, nay... hypnotized by watching people in a segment of the gunternet whacking each other over the head with their multicam man-purses.
I'm almost out of popcorn, here, though, so posting should resume shortly.

I've not taken the time to read it yet but many more dedicated folk on my local forum have.
Got wind of one of the dumbest changes yet this morning: no reloads on the move, even behind cover.
No such thing as a man purse, murse, satchel, fanny pack, edc carrier. Call it what you will, it's just a purse. Get over it boys.

No, it was the $#!+storm stirred up by DocGKR's apparently innocuous review of a Hackathorn class that allegedly got up some people's noses for reasons that are cryptic and vague.
It's pretty bad...but rest assured that at least in this instance the villains appear to be getting their due and the good guys are going to come out unscathed.

Not me, I spent my time watching the train wreck that is Illinois politics. Between Governor Potatohead, the ILGA and the 7th Circuit Court it's been an eventful few days. Good news is concealed carry for usins in Illinois; bad news is it will be at least 240 days before the first permits are issued.

Unless you live in Chicago. It effectively bans CCW in Chicago. It bans concealed carry on public transportation. Try living or working in Chicago without using a bus, the el, or metra. Can't hold the whole state hostage to the dipshits in a tiny portion of the state, but it would have been nice if someone could have gotten that changed. I guess I'll have some decisions to make.

My father the BAR gunner (and M4 90mm gun AAA battery crewman, Battle of Britain and Battle of Bulge veteran) told me that in 1940 his unit fired small arms ammunition loaded in 1918 and ate canned rations packed in 1918. I find Dr. Roberts explaining that the U.S. Army declined the opportunity to fully develop the Garand rifle in .270 (6.8mm) caliber, instead converting the design to utilize stockpiles of .30-06 ammunition to be fascinating. Dr. Roberts conjectured that had the U.S. Army initially adopted 6.8mm then they would still be firing that round instead of progressing from .30-06 to 7.62mm NATO to 5.56mm NATO to investigating using 6.8mm again as the 6.8mm is still effective in short barreled carbines. Using 5.56mm NATO rounds as training ammo and switching to 6.8mm for combat use in M4 carbines seems workable.
6.5mm, 6.8mm, 7mm are all pretty close to where you might want to be for middleweight human whacking for rifles and light machineguns.
ReplyDelete5.56mm does really well, if you have a long enough barrel that its velocity is above 2500 fps when it hits. Add in the notion that you might want to shoot at 'suspected' enemy locations, and the 5.56mm has some very practical advantage over the middleweights.
If someone mechanical or other than me is schlepping the ammunition, then 12.7 is great, and the old M-2 of WWII was known to be very successful in putting a German Infantry company nose deep in the dirt for most of an afternoon.
I only made it to the sanitized version on M4C. I didn't see any problems with either DocGKR's AAR or the one that immediately follows it. Drama on a forum. Hmm...

People who've given up their lives for the last few years (I'm talking about people who've done far more than I have, and I'm betting that's more than you have) begged, fought, pleaded and maneuvered to keep that provision out, but it couldn't be done. I realize what it does to people in Chicago, especially the people who can least afford the price of the permit/training/equipment in the first place, but the status quo was flat prohibition.
It'll be interesting to see which state repeals its prohibition on carry on public transport first, Missouri or Illinois. Remember, Missouri has an eight-year head start on us.
