That was freaky.

I had a pretty normal dream about going to gun school, except I still had that ratty black '84 Trans Am, which then segued into the closest thing to a nightmare I can remember having in a long, long time...

I was in the office, which was just like the office at Roseholme cottage except it had a walk-in closet. Bobbi spilled a bottle of iced tea and we were in the closet getting paper towels to clean it up. My little brindled calico cat was in there, too.

Brindled calico paperweight, for illustration.

At which point I clearly heard the basement door open and close and footsteps in the kitchen.

Bobbi, normally the jumpier of the two of us, didn't appear to hear anything as the footsteps grew closer.

I went out into the hall to confront whoever it was, and it was Bobbi. With my cat following her. Except the cat that was following her was half her regular color and half like a black & white photo.

I woke up with a start at that point, thoroughly creeped out. It was very Twilight Zone.

  1. the Swords of Exodus eARC just dropped, so it's not like you'll be sleeping for a day or two anyway.

  2. My wife would call that a tortoiseshell cat.

  3. Maybe the Bobbi cleaning with you was the amitron and the Bobbi through the door the real deal?

Does create sort of a deja vu juxtaposition that is slightly off kilter.

  4. Gerry,

She is a tortie. "Brindle" is just kind of the word of the day around here.

  5. Brindle isn't a racist code word of the day is it? I can't keep up any more.

My wife came home two little strays, one of which was a tortie.
It was very good at hissing at men and missing the litter box.

  6. No, it's what dog owners call their tortoiseshell dogs. :)

  7. I'm coming to appreciate tortoiseshell cats.

A few months after my little grey tabby died, the vet told me about two kittens, a black and a tortie, that one of his techs was fostering. I was only able to take one, so I told him to set me up with whichever one would be harder to place.

I got the tortie. She has a ... complex temperament. Very communicative, though, and over the top affectionate. With me, anyway; everyone else is a crapshoot.

She looks a bit like yours, except with more brown on the face and less brown on the torso.

  8. The cat is black and gold, like the Trans Am. IMO those colors go better on a 72D John Player Special Lotus of that era - though the entwined JPS logo could be likened to the chicken on the hood of the TransAm?

  9. What exactly do you eat prior to going to bed?

  10. You have the damndest dreams.

When I do remember mine, it's almost always standard crap; I'm not sure whether to be jealous or happy.
