Overheard in the Hallway...

FN's full-line catalog is an honest-to-Browning full-line catalog, containing everything from CCW pistols and Sporting Clays shotguns to remote-operated .50-cal machine gun vehicle mounts and gun pods for tactical air support. It's currently in the reading room here at Roseholme Cottage...
RX: "I want one of these gun pods for my car!"

Me: "It's rated for Mach point six eight..."

RX: "Point seven five."

Me: "...so it should surely be able to handle the velocities of the Hottest Needle of Inquiry."

RX: "And it has a 'spent links and fired case collector' so I won't get a flat!"

  1. Of course, these pods mount the FN M3P 50 caliber machine gun. If you spend some time on their site, you discover "This product is not available for purchase online." Darn!

  2. So, I had look up what a "Hot Needle of Inquiry" really was (if you can use the word "really" in regards to something from a work of fiction), which results in the question "What good are those FN products when vessel hulls are impervious to nothing but visible light, antimatter and gravity?"

But, one might suppose that the "pew, pew, pew" would be therapeutic, but the impermeability of the hull to acoustic waves might prevent that.

  4. I love how their demo photo has a propeller-driven plane. Throwback with style.

  5. Of course the catalog links are blocked by the firewall at work. Was hoping for a smile with lunch. ;)

  6. I think you might like having the Dillon Aero mini-gun on a pop-up in the Subie.

  7. ProdigalSon:

Purpose built fighters and ground attack craft already have guns on them ( unless you drive an F-4 ).

Their market would be small countries retrofitting prop and turboprop aircraft.

  8. Kristophr,

Dedicated COIN aircraft like the BAe Strikemaster & Hawk, Embraer Super Tucano, Pilatus PC-21, and others often have no guns or a couple .3" or .5" guns, and rely on hardpoint-mounted ordnance for their punch.

    Also, helicopters.

  9. Like I said ... prop and turbo prop aircraft.

I can see the utility of putting a couple of those FN pods on in place of bombs.c

Or adding them to a helicopter ... that one completely slipped my mind, thanx.
