Automotif XXIII...
Lunch at 10-01 after the Fun Show last Saturday with Shootin' Buddy, Bobbi, and the Data Viking. Spotted this nice-looking '64 Goat rolling down Broad Ripple Avenue and snapped a pic as it rolled past our table...
Love the Goat, but I wish I knew where he got new Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 tires. I went through my last set a few months ago, and was told they were unavailable. I drove to Illinois to snag a set of New Old Stock Goodyear Eagle GT-IIs, but it appears 15" muscle car tires are limited to BF Goodrich and Cooper nowadays. :-(
About '70, a friend had a '65 Goat Tri-power 389 4spd. Box stock. the PO had set an NHRA record with a 12:29 quarter, unremembered speed. (Atco Dragway?) It blew the prior record by more than a second, IIRC. It got inspected, and passed. One of those accidentally blueprinted on the production line engines, I guess.
Only tweak was the slot in the secondary linkage was partially filled, which opened the end carbs well before full throttle was reached. They would actually start to open at about 65mph on the highway. On the street, it would annihilate the common 4bbl Goats.
He traded it in on a new '71 350 Nova, and the dealer gave him $1700 for it. He had picked up a '56 Nomad, and didn't have room for two toys. I was into 57's, and the third guy was a '55 nut, so we had it covered :D
My neighbor has one of those sitting in his garage waiting to be restored. It's been there maybe 5 years now. I hope he starts that project and lets me help before he dies.

That's just pure purty right there.
ReplyDeleteWhat is that white puffy thing in the street directly behind the car?
ReplyDeleteI don't know exactly, but it was towing two of them. Perhaps some manner of wedding accoutrement.
ReplyDeleteWant... WANT... sigh
