What is Rannie doing in a Parisian café?
I have to say that the concept of a coffeehouse where you go to pet cats seems a little odd to me. Cats belong in used book stores, just like dogs belong in gun shops. The universe has obviously ordained this to be so.
I know of a clothing store in the next county where they have cats. The cats are liable to be bedded down on the clothes too.
ReplyDeleteI have nothing against cats as the fat boys on the porch will attest, but my mother and one of my sons are sensitive to the dander. Would that be an issue in places such as this?

ReplyDeleteGiven how the USDA has gone after the Hemingway Museum in Florida because it has cats, and therefore needs an exhibitor's license, cages for the cats at night, more elevated perches in said enclosures, as well as the OMG there's an animal within 100 yards of food preparation! attitude, I suspect no one would ever be able to afford to comply with all the regs. ReplyDeleteI can only suppose that they get away with cats in book stores because the cats aren't one of the marketing tools used by said book store, and (usually) book stores of that sort don't sell food. Sad.

Well, I'd imagine if you're allergic to cats, you'd simply avoid places that have cats running around, kind of like how people who are allergic to fish don't frequent sushi restaurants.
One thing I miss about the Powell's Books newsletter is their fictional tales of their late shop cat, Fup, and his other shop animal companions.
ReplyDeleteI remember a used book store in Houston where the owner brought her German Shepherd with her. Her shop relocated several times over the years, and it wasn't always in the best areas of city.
leaddog: I'm hypersensitive to smoke. I don't demand that _all_ restaurants be smoke free, just that some of them are.
