Weather and road condition check: Anybody along the I-75/I-64/I-65 route between Knoxville and Indianapolis?

Thanks!

  1. Tam, If you want to take I-81 north to I-70, then 70 West in Indy, I'll buy ya lunch in Martinsburg, WV.

    I know it's a little longer, but hey--lunch!

  2. That'd be super cool, but I don't have anything that gives me OH reciprocity. (Hence my avoiding the slightly shorter I-74 route.)

    :(

  3. Surface roads are white with salt but otherwise clear in Louisville, so the highways here are probably fine.

  4. I'm hitting the road today too.

  5. Now that is something I though only I did. Plan the trip based on whether you can keep your gat or not.

reports that 65 is difficult north of Seymour all the way to Indy, but otherwise passable. Subie should have no problems.

  7. I bet you're enjoying that AWD Subie this winter!

As it happens, I'm shopping tires for the F-150, and was joking with the salesman at NTB about needing "snow tires" here in the Houston area.

Had a couple of hours of sub 32f here on the island. So, I'm getting "I Survived the Great Galveston Blizzard 2014! tee shirts ordered.

    Epic suffering! Woe is me.

(and my actual sympathies to those in the real iceboxes up North!)

  8. Southern part of Kentucky on I75 at least is clear from what I've heard on ham radio and what I saw yesterday on the 25 to 38 mm portion. Probably good to Lexington at least. of course I'm speaking in terms of the road conditions. As for other drivers, you're on your own ...

  9. Apparently the interstates in IND are packed snow and 30mph.

  10. http://www.in.gov/dhs/traveladvisory/

Bartholomew and Johnson counties are still under an orange advisory (essential travel only recommended). Everything north of Clark county on I-65 is under at least a yellow advisory.

I think they are hoping that the warmer temperatures today will help the salt break up the ice.

  11. They're predicting highs of 34 tomorrow and 40-something on Friday in IND.

Right now it's looking like getting a motel south of Columbus tonight and spending 5 hours creeping from there home tomorrow.

  12. Being a native Wolverine, I should be surprised by anything that involves Ohio, but I confess to being a bit bemused that I my WA CPL is valid in the Buckeye state but a Hoosier permit is not.

  13. Drang,

Does Washington require any testing or training?

    1. Nope. Pays your money, provide your prints, and wait about 45 days.

  14. I did not know that OH won't recognize IN permits. That truly sucks, having them on your state border and all. Anything that your state AG can fix, reciprocity-wise?

  15. If I were you and I could, I'd stay in Knoxville `til tomorrow.

  16. Per AZ DPS, my AZ permit is valid in IN, OH & 33 others but the whole left coast doesn't like it.
The one place I do wish it was valid in is MN.

  17. @Murphy's Law, there's nothing really the state AG can do. Indiana law only requires that you not be a prohibited person to be issued a permit, and we have state supreme court rulings that say they can't require anything more than that. The other states' laws require a certain amount of training, and by law can't recognize a permit that doesn't require substantially similar training.
