Word is that Remington will be moving as many as 1,600-2,000 jobs from its Ilion, New York facility, which it has occupied since before either the Democratic or Republican parties even existed in their current incarnations, to a new facility in Alabama.
With their corporate HQ now in North Carolina, a new assembly plant in Kentucky, and ammo manufacturing relocated from Connecticut to Arkansas, this gives Big Green a decidedly Dixie flavor.
The South went into the locker room at halftime behind on the scoreboard
because they had no industry, and especially no organic arms industry.
Good to see the North is diligently working to reverse that imbalance
for the second half. Very sporting of y'all.
Because better to lose jobs and essentially ghost an entire small town than respect the Constitution, freedom, and all that silly old stuff.

One of the world's largest white paper mills is nearby, and it's planned for closure this quarter. We've all wondered at the idea that a huge, modern factory, with rail, water, road and power connections- will just be torn down.
Maybe Rem will take it over.

Tampa, Florida has the other Yuengling Brewery, south of the University of South Florida main campus and just a few thousand yards north of Busch Gardens, where beer production was shifted long ago to Jacksonville, Florida

And contra "four times retail", you can't buy an MSR retail, even not in PSR spec. Remington won't sell you one, and they have no really comparable civilian-market product.

ReplyDeleteAs a former defense contractor, I expect that 2/3 of any government contract will be to cover all the paperwork, inspectors, and bean-counters needed to prove they aren't cheating the government. Is $5-6,000 unreasonable for a customized high-performance sniper rifle, and the full kit of parts and tools you'll need to keep it working for 50 years?
