So, Shirley Temple died, there's some Olympics* going on, the President
of the Frogs isn't bringing a date to the White House, and that seems to
be all that's going on in the world this morning, at least according to Planet Manhattan.
*looks around nervously*
I don't like it; it's too quiet. The universe is up to something.
*Neatest piece of Olympics-related triviata I've seen thus far.

You can add "Will Atlanta go t*ts up again when the the new winter storm hits tonight?"
ReplyDeleteSuggestion out of France that our chief Master has a singer for a mistress.
ReplyDeleteThat should keep us distracted for a while...
At least they left it. Over here it would have been relocated.
ReplyDeleteThose who forget the past are doomed to repeat it, and the if what I know of the past was true, we are in for a bumpy ride.
It is quite, kind of like before the storm. March could be really interesting.
All is quiet on the Western front.
ReplyDeleteIf there's nothing else to do,go to 'the day we fight back dot org'today ,and call out the NSA to MYOB.
ReplyDeleteCan't count the times I've heard that some old-timey celeb died and my reaction was "[X] was alive?"
ReplyDeleteSomehow "Shirley Temple, deader than usual today" doesn't seem like day-changing news. Maybe to my dad. All I remember about her is having Heidi show up on the TV what seemed like every Saturday of my childhood, and loathing the sight of her.
Regarding Shirley Temple, whenever her films are brought up, I tend to mention "Fort Apache"... IMO, the best film I recall her making. Thing is, she wasn't in that role as the child star, but rather as part of a serious cast telling a serious story.
ReplyDeleteJanet Yellen was testifying in Congress today. That should tank the markets (assuming anyone can figure out what she said. Listening to her read reminds me of the grownups in Peanuts cartoons.)

Used to be that when the price of a gallon of gas shot up half a buck in two weeks, there was a hoard of "journalists" at the white house and one at every gas pump reporting on how this hurts the "little man" and how the "evil" gas companies are raping record profits. Coincidentally, they would add that Bush was once an oil man himself dontchano?

Has anyone been watching the Olympics? Worst coverage ever. Between a freaky looking Bob Costas and a virtual blackout on live event coverage, it is quite a disappointment.
ReplyDeleteFive NBC channels and at most two will broadcast events and sometimes none of them do but at least USA has reruns of Law and Order cause no one has seen those yet. Even NBC's live streaming is just replays and interviews.

ReplyDeleteBrother Grimm:
ReplyDeleteI'll be out of town for a couple of weeks. Things need to be made less interesting on Lasitor. I've taken both rapiers, and Tabby gave me a short sword with the Tabby crest for I.D. if things get dicey. The stargate is set to one-way, with random jump-off points. Do NOT use unless you've got a beacon. In the remote event things get interesting, there's a cloaked Elfboat at the Vivaldi coordinates we previously agreed to. Use a stepping disk to get there, as walking up to it could be problematic. There's also a cloaked Ripping-Claw class Tabby cruiser in polar orbit keeping an eye on our place. If they detect anyone other than you approaching, they'll send a landing boat. It would be good if that did not happen, so call them or turn on your TRNS if you show up at other than an agreed upon time.
Now for the interesting news. And why we have a Ripping-Claw class Tabby cruiser parked upstairs. Something is up. Three weeks ago, a Daklotar scout came ripping through the system, dropped three boats, and left in a hurry. By the time it got out-system, it was hustling along at a measurable fraction of the speed of light. I just managed to get a scan of it as it left. I have never seen one of their scouts that heavily armed. I have disposed of one of the landing boats. The Tabby cruiser is "handling" the other two.
A week later, a Dragon light cruiser came screaming through the system fitted out with what I can only describe as dreadnaught-class engines and weaponry. It slowed down just long enough to scan the system, and left in a big hurry, in the same direction as our little wayward scout. By the time it got out-system, it was carrying an inherent velocity of very near half-light. At this point, I turned on every scanner we've got.
Now for the bad news. Three days ago, I got the biggest surprise of my life. An Outsider ship popped into space just two AU away. They paid me a short visit. In person. I suppose I should take it as a compliment that they not only knew who I was, but how to find me. They asked me if I was safe, and said they'd contact an Elf cutter in the area and have them look in on me. There aren't supposed to be any Elf-boats within light years of here. It scared the crap out of me. When a being you've never seen before shows up, knows who you are, and asks if you're safe, something is up. They also contacted the afore-mentioned Tabby cruiser that “happened to be near-by” and had them stop by to “visit” us. Then they left. Going the same direction as our two previous unannounced visitors, near as I could tell, before they jumped. I may be mistaken, but I do not recall a Tabby cruiser that just “happened to be near-by.”
We need to talk when I get back. It seems the Brothers Grimm might need to do a little scouting of our own in the general direction our 'friends' were headed. I do not like surprises, and THINGS ARE HAPPENING out there that we need to know about.
Stay Safe,
The Other Brother Grimm
Woo hoo!

Who dares to disturb the rest of Balin Lord of Moria ? THEY ARE COMING !!!
ReplyDeleteIn other news, a sinkhole swallowed up part of the Corvette museum in Bowling Green.
ReplyDeleteNo, really.
Every once in a while I read a comment thread that makes me realize just how boring the inside of my head really is, and how much more exciting other peoples' internal memory warehouses are in comparison.
