What media bias?

You'd think the hypocrisy angle alone would make for some juicy scandal journalism but... crickets.

Maybe it's just that anti-gun politicians are so often criminal scum-bags that it isn't news anymore.

Like it would be front page news if an anti-gun politician turned out to actually be a nice, contentious, law abiding citizen who wanted to do his part to make America a better place.

That, of course, was also turned down as a fantasy novel idea because it was too unbelievable.

  3. I had to read three articles by AP before I found, in the 4th paragraph, the detail that the guy is a "(D-San Francisco)" because, I guess, political party is irrelevant to criminal actions. Except when crimes are performed by non-D (What does that stand for? The AP does not say!)

If it weren't the normal behavior of the media, it would be notable. But maybe one day someone will make a connection between Senator Lee's actions and a political party, and perhaps then AP will write a story about it.

Nah - I'm just kidding. That'll never happen.

  4. Fully automatic rifles from Asia for California street gangs are apparently alright for Yee but not for thee.

  5. June of 2011 the California Senate voted 28 - 2 to exempt itself from all California gun laws.

  6. I recall seeing an analysis done when a politician does something naughty. If they are Republican, it shows up early (e.g. "A prominent Republican senator, XYZ, was charged with...") and is repeatedly mentioned throughout the article. When it was a Democrat, the information, as mikee mentions he found, is more along the lines of "A California state senator was charged today...") with digging necessary to find that the Holy Democratic Empire was involved somehow.

Still, I find it disturbing that searching specifically for this incident via Google and looking in the 'News' results, there were only about 6 articles that showed up?

  7. All this story needs for the perfect fairy tale ending is a membership card from MAIG with Yee's name on it.

Meanwhile, a hell of a lot of law-abiding taxpayers are entering their second year of waiting on the ATF assclowns to bless them with the permission to own an AR upper with a barrel 1.5 inches shorter than one they could buy and take home tonight.

I hope they tell the world that Yee sang like a bird and then let him go. The Triad's got a lot more free time than I do.

  8. The NY Times is still trying to figure out how Bush and the tea party movement tricked him into being corrupt. Then it will be front page news.

  9. It's OK, he was probably working with the BATF.

  10. To be fair, the MSM do mention the party affiliation of Donks accused/convicted of crimes/ethics violations/scandal.

They just do so at roughly half the rate they do for politicians with the "R" by their names (at least according to the few studies I've seen).

    Nope, no bias there.

  13. I was in and out of the car between noon and 3 today, with Rush on the radio. The Yee case is just about all he talked about, and his party was mentioned every time his name was spoken. Do, at least 20 million people know about Yee and his corruption.

Actually, not that surprising when you think about it.

My humble, bigoted opinion is that a huge amount of anti-gun sentiment comes from projection:

these people know that they cannot be trusted with a gun, and therefore project that onto everyone else.

They would not be able to self-regulate, and handle the responsibility of having a gun without doing horrible things with it, and so they cant imagine how anyone else could.

Thus, the ranks of anti-gun types are filled with folks with strong criminal or violent tendencies, poor impulse control, and the inability to empathize with others (meaning, see things from their perspective, and understand that there ARE people who don't suffer from the same maladies that they do.)

All of those things add up to criminal activity pretty handily.

Not all of them, mind you. But more than a few.

  18. We live in a farcical land.

Ollie North sells guns to Iranians and sends the money to Contras to run a foreign war and keep U.S. soldiers from getting killed, and he gets crucified.

But Leland Yee can take bribes from known gangsters, facilitate the of sell rocket launchers and fully automatic weapons that end up in the hands of known terrorist groups, and participate in murder-for-hire and nobody finds out about it.

Yep, we live in a farcical land.

  20. You know how priests and pastors sometimes visit the accused in jail to discuss coming to Jesus? I wonder if representatives of the DNC will visit Yee in jail and discuss changing his party affiliation to "(R)", and save them all a lot of embarrassment.
