It's spreading to the 'burbs...

Madison County is on the northeastern outskirts of the Indy metro area, but an officer in the little town of Edgewood acted like he was trying to move up from double-A ball and audition for the bigs down in the IMPD.

Another OWI fatality, only this time the officer was off duty, in a private vehicle, and zoned out on painkillers rather than tonsil polish, none of which makes his victim any less dead.

Just becomes it comes in a little plastic bottle from a pharmacy rather than a big aluminum can from a convenience store doesn't mean it can't make you too messed up to be operating a motor vehicle. Wash it down with a big gulp of hubris, and now you're looking at a B Felony for OWI with a fatality.

And in the wake of l'Affaire Bisard, I'm thinking that it's going to be tough to find a lenient jury in the 317, unless there are more deaf mutes who don't own televisions or take the paper than I assume there are.

  3. Her parents live in my neighborhood. She's moving home for a while. Lose your husband and have your baby within hours of each other, no thanks.

Part of it that seems the worst is that this yahoo had someone else in the car with him, why weren't they driving?

And how out of it do you have to be to hit someone on that road there, he had rinsed them for about a mile.

  4. Defence lawyers regularly come to me on DUI by drugs cases and say "But he has a prescription!"

Because a slip of paper exempts the people he hits from physics, I suppose.

Modern times help- now I just google the medication and show them the do not drive warnings attached.

Weeelllll, it can. Voluntary intoxication is not a defense in Indiana, however involuntary intoxication is a defense.

  6. The 317? Don't you mean the 765? :)

  7. Shootin' Buddy: "Involuntary Intoxication" sounds way too much like a frat house incident.

I.E.: I can't remember, is Thursday "Vodka Colonic Fest" or is that Tuesday? :)

  8. The neighborhood she lives in is 317; Lapel ibthink is 317. My kids elementary school has a 317 and 765 number.

Few places around here across the street is long distance. And a bit farther out there used to be three houses at a four way stop that couldnt call each other local.

Pendleton isn't exactly the burbs, not like were Fishers or anything. But close enough from where you are. My daughter thinks of anything inside 465 as downtown Indy.

  9. You don't need a lenient jury if you can find a lenient district attorney.
