Sunny and high sixties here in SoBro yesterday, and I dragged the Broad Ripple SUV out of the garage for its first ride of the year, even if it was just to Twenty Tap for lunch and back, a distance I usually walk in under ten minutes.
I was apparently not the only person thinking it was a lovely day for it...
In fact, it was so nice that I took an extra several laps around the block on the way home.
After two days of blue skies and temps warm enough to get out under them for a while, the gray has closed in again, but it's just going to be three days of rain and then decent weather again this weekend. The day lilies are sprouting, the Claritin is working fine, and it looks like the Massively Sucky Winter of '13-'14 is finally headed off to pester the other hemisphere for a while.
Yep, it is starting to sound like spring. The cold has abated and the birds are chirping. The rabbits have not had anything to mow off yet so the warrant on them is still null and void. And me with a new air pistol I really want to try out on them.
ReplyDeleteSpring has sprung.
Officially 81 here in Birmingham yesterday. First time since October 14th of last year we reached 80.
ReplyDeleteBut don't pack away the coats just yet. Models indicate a possible cold snap next week.

Glad to hear your feeling better Tam. I don't really pay attention to weather forecasts because no matter how "bad" the weather gets in San Diego, long pants and a hoodie are all you need to stay warm. We were out walking the dogs the other night and I commented there was a chill in the air. My friend said "Well there is a storm moving in."
ReplyDeleteSure enough, we got about 1/8" of rain yesterday and my morning commute featured scary weather music on the radio and a bunch of rear enders on the 163. Then it cleared up into the kind of day that made me daydream about hotwiring the decrepit old Honda parked across from my office.
Bits of spring here, too.
ReplyDeleteOne irony:
We've been chronically short of firewood since moving into the place on 1 Feb. Now that it's getting warmer, the melting snow is exposing tons of firewood that we couldn't get to earlier, even using the tractor's bucket loader to scrape, push, and prod.
We have two days of snow forecast. I am pretty tired of living in the tundra about now.
ReplyDeleteWe're up the prevailing winds from you and it's been snowing most of the morning. While I understand that some chickens are hatching, they're not all hatched yet.
ReplyDeleteIs the neat queuing a Broad Ripple thing?
ReplyDeleteI don't recall our local cyclists being so considerate.
What is the small video screen on the stem and does the basket come off for shoping? Oh it looks like rain is coming your way.
ReplyDeleteEd Jones,
ReplyDeleteOne of these.
Good for you Tam. I try to ride as much as I can. As an older man with bad knees, the more I ride the better I can walk, but the yellow peril (pollen) is attacking, at least in N. MS. I may be crazy, but I am looking forward to longer days and warmer (hot and humid) Mississippi weather.
ReplyDeleteglad you're feeling better. that clariten is wonderful stuff, no?
ReplyDeleteof course, i feel your pain as the pine trees of Lower Alabama have just commenced to make sweet, sweet love. but, methinks it's getting to be time to construct some more garden boxes. tomatoes are still several months off but i'm starting to get the itch.
Tam, that rear basket - may I ask for the make and model, please? It looks pretty handy.
ReplyDeleteAlien,
ReplyDeleteIt's part of Bontrager's "interchange" setup. You buy the rack, which is like a Picatinny rail, and then various bags and baskets can pop on and off. That one's got a handle on it so you can take it into the grocery store and then come back out and latch it back onto the bike. :)
