My father was occasionally given to hyperbole. He dropped by to visit me when I was in the TB ward in Fitzsimmons Army Hospital in Denver, in the fall of 1957. He'd come up to Colorado for an elk hunt.
"Opening day, there was more shooting than there was at Normandy."
My grandfather, for whom I was named, was supposed to land on D-Day with the 29th Infantry Division, 175th Regiment. He had a non-fatal heart attack shortly beforehand and was scratched.
We were at the Air force Museum in Dayton yesterday and saw that this was playing. Ireally wanted to see it, but we didn't even have time for the whole museum. Oh well, getting into the museum is free and it's 20 minutes from home and 5 minutes from work, so I think I'll manage to get back to see it.
That ought to set off the PTSD in the 90 + bunch.

ReplyDeleteSaw that that's playing at the Air Force Museum in Dayton. Really wanted to see it during our visit yesterday, but there was not time.
ReplyDeleteOh well, getting into the museum is free and it's about a 15 minute drive, so I think I should be able to make it back.
