I googled up the Florida Code of Judicial Conduct just to double-check, and it's sure enough right there in black and... well, black and that unfortunate shade of legal-pad yellow they picked for a background:
A Judge Shall Avoid Impropriety and the Appearance of Impropriety in all of the Judge's ActivitiesHmmm... Does this obvious display of emotional incontinence open up any previous verdicts the judge had handed down in battery cases and the like to appeal?
.
1. Also refrain from committing crimes, like assault.
ReplyDelete2. Life tip, when a person tells you he wants to fight, don't do it.
Fighting is always stupid.
3. Stay in the boat.
Looks like everybody in the "Justice" system is losing it....and when it gets to the point that desperate people see no recourse but to strike back, they'll be called "domestic terrorists"....
ReplyDeleteAnd 4, this is no surprise.
ReplyDeleteJudges never rub up against the limits the rest of us face daily. In their own actual lives, no one has the ability and power to stop them in an act, to say no and make it stick.
The only things between a Judge's desires and his actions are his own personal self control and physics.
Like Caligula.
Leave of absence and counseling, my left foot. He should be fired immediately, and disbarred if he has a law license, pour encourager les autres.
ReplyDeleteFired? Hahahaha.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.judicialselection.us/judicial_selection/methods/removal_of_judges.cfm?state
"Florida judges may be removed in one of two ways:
On the recommendation of the judicial qualifications commission, the supreme court may discipline, retire, or remove a judge.
Judges may be impeached by a two-thirds vote of the house of representatives and convicted by a two-thirds vote of the senate."
The total of seven cases pending are interesting- two drunks with DUI cases, two violating campaign rules, two engaging in private business on the clock and using government resources to profit, and one a pre-judicial complaint.
Given the number of Judges Florida must have, only seven pending cases suggests that the selection process is excellent, the rules are very generous, or people are unwilling to complain. Maybe some of all three.
I can understand why the Judge was so mad. The SOB wanted a speedy trial - as if that's written somewhere like the Constitution.
ReplyDelete"If you want to fight, let's step out in back."
ReplyDelete"Your Honor, I'm here to fight, but you and I are officers of the court, so we are bound by law and honor to fight within the law and Statutes."
The appearance of impropriety is also what makes the idea of judges campaigning to hold their judgeships unseemly; as one judge explained to me in California, it does not reflect well on the office to ask for campaign contributions one day and the next to sit before the same people and profess to judge them impartially the next.
Because Florida.
ReplyDeleteNo, read the rules, Judges are prohibited from asking for campaign contributions!

That way the problem you mention doesn't exist, ignorant outsider.

Pummeling a lawyer is a crime?
ReplyDeleteWhat other strange laws do they have in Florida?
Gerry
"What other strange laws do they have in Florida?"
ReplyDeleteHow about that jurors, lawyers, witnesses, defendants and visitors are not allowed to be armed in a Florida courtroom, but the bailiffs (sheriff's deputies) and judges are allowed to be armed? The judge may order that others be armed in his/her courtroom.

The best part about living in Florida, and Brevard county in particular, is the frequency with which we show up in Fark.
