...is when, even though there's probably a dead tree copy in my very near future (because I'm not letting Larry autograph my iPad), I order the Kindle version of
Monster Hunter Nemesis today because I want to start reading it now. I look forward to reading this one as much as I did
Monster Hunter Alpha and for the same reason: I want me a read that stars one of the more interesting side characters in Larry's fictional universe.
Just finished it - it's fantastic.
ReplyDeleteI finished it last week (I downloaded the ebook from Baen to iBooks). My signed copy from Uncle Hugo's arrived yesterday.
ReplyDeleteAs Jerry Pournelle would write, Highly Recommended.
I'm hoping to get to Uncle Hugo's on Thursday to pick up a signed copy there. I've been going to Uncle Hugo's since they opened the first store over on Franklin Avenue, just off the freeway (a block north of the Electric Fetus).
ReplyDeleteI'll get to meet Mr. Correia in person. First time I'll ever meet a jen-you-wine author.
I just hope I don't stammer like an idiot when I try to tell him how much I've enjoyed his writing.
I read it months ago... but I shelled out for the eARC because I have a problem. I can think of worse addictions to have though.
ReplyDeleteRead it 2 or 3 months ago because I was somehow able to justify dropping $15 for the eARC. Audible is next, and his signing tour is coming to town.
ReplyDeleteIt's a pretty good read, gives lot's of back story on Agent Frank's, and adds a lot to the overall series plot arc. I may try to get over to Uncle Hugo's on Thursday when Larry is there for a signing.
ReplyDeleteIf he keeps writing like this they'll have to change the trope from Chekhov to Larry's Gun.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read Nemesis yet, but in the prior books and Grimnoir he hung a bunch of crapvover the mantle and keeps pulling each one down and shooting it, even if it takes a couple books.
Trying to find them is almost as fun as reading them.
Agreed. Larry's side characters tend to be much more interesting perspectives to spend a book in than his Marty Stu. Loved Alpha and Hard Magic for exactly that reason.
ReplyDeleteVery much looking forward to this one. Alpha was excellent fun.
ReplyDeleteTo quote one of my coffee mugs "WWAFD". Read Nemesis to find out.
ReplyDeleteCorreia started as a decent author and has gotten better with every book IMO. I also shelled out $15 for the eARC and don't regret it.
ReplyDeleteRead it two weeks ago when the electronic version was released early. You won't be disappointed.
ReplyDeleteHowever, i did miss Z getting the stuffing kicked out of him... again.
i know how you feel. i was looking for some Viktor Suvorov and most of his stuff is still on dead tree format. i remember thinking, "dammit, now i can't read it".
ReplyDeleteGotta do the latest Lt.Leary first, then Larry C., then my "OH NO! John Ringo!".
ReplyDeleteHave to spread 'em out. Still a lot of Summer ahead.
The one I'm waiting for is when he writes the story of Bubba Shackleford, if he does. Larry in L'Amourland? Yes, please!
ReplyDeleteI read the E-ARC it's GOOD! :-)
ReplyDeleteOh my gawd, oh my gawd, oh my gawd. My favorite part of summer is here...Larry Correia book drop.
ReplyDeleteI forgot about this and I'm leaving to go out of town for the fourth on Thursday when an Amazon copy would arrive. Away I go to the Narnes and Boble to procure a copy.

Enjoyed Frank's back story. Looking forward to seeing Larry at Uncle Hugo's again tomorrow. I think I'll buy all the MHI dead trees, only have electrons so far. Need to have Monster books in my show bookcases along w Victor Hugo and Homer.
ReplyDeleteRead it, yer gonna love it. Franks' point of view is pretty amusing. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteA little disappointed by the early parts. IMO, the first quarter needs another pass through the typewriter, but it picks up well after that.
ReplyDeleteI read it back on that early thing that Baen has. Liked it. Not my favorite, that was probably MH Alpha.
ReplyDeleteI haven't been able to get into Dead Six in the same way. Maybe because they're less far out. Larry can write some characters, and some fight scenes.
