Gratuitous Gun Pr0n #106...

Another 100 rounds of 115gr Winchester White Box FMJ brings the total to 1100. No malfunctions to report. Clanged steel plates from 15 yards with the first ninety rounds and then ran the last ten into the berm really fast, just to see if being hot and dirty might help induce a malf. Nope.

As an aside, this was some vile, smoky WWB ammo. I don't know how much the ~90% humidity exacerbated that.

  1. Damn you, Tam! Now you're making me want to buy one of those ugly things! LOL

  2. Tam, how does that crook in the grip feel? I read somewhere that though it looks uncomfortable, it actually fits the hand well. I've been curious about the Walther, as well as the Steyr, which is another ungainly looking pistol. Heard they actually shoot quite well.

I've pretty much given up on WWB, hardly seems better than stinky Russian ammo anymore.

  3. Fondled one at the LGS. Felt weird after shooting a Glock for so long. The trigger IS pretty good. Looks perfectly serviceable.

  4. Glad to hear it continues to function as advertised... :-) And I noticed that same issue with WWB this weekend...

  5. I'm hoping to find one to rent, for HH6 to try out, so she'll have a self-defense piece that was made by a company that is still in business.

Her Stars are nice, but I worry about replacement parts/repair.

  6. I ran across a box of .45 ACP WWB (230 gr. FMJ) that when I finally read the fine print on the box noted that it was actually made in the Czech Republic.

When I opened it I found that the cases were stamped with the S&B (Sellier and Bellot) marking. Apparently Winchester had made some kind of deal with S&B about re-packaging their ammo in white box that looked exactly like standard WWB.

It shot reliably, but dirty and smoky.

Is it possible this is the same kind of stuff? I've actually had very good experience with S&B ammo for practice, since it used to be relatively inexpensive to shoot.

  7. I know that as serious defensive shooters we're only supposed to care about what works, but I can't get past the looks of that pistol.

Maybe when last call rolled around I could swallow my pride and go home with say, a Springfield XD...but this one is a bridge too fugly for me.

  9. When I first saw the PPX at the shop last year, I passed even though I am a Walther fanatic and own one of nearly every 9mm pistol Walther has made.

Then I read Tam's reviews. When she called it a "Volkspistole", the light finally clicked on and I went and bought one. I don't regret it at all.
