At that point, I had a couple choices:
- I could switch to carrying the backup M&P357, which has the same sights on it as the 9, in its own holster.
- I could move the CTC Lasergrip and Lightguard to the M&P357 and carry it in the same Dark Star Gear holster as the 9.
- I could drive over to Premier Arms and buy a fresh set of Ameriglo I-Dot Pros, have the front sight installed, send my old front sight off to Ameriglo to be fixed, and now have a spare sight set just in case this ever happens again.
So, all in all it was a handy reminder of the maxims "Two is one and one is none," and "'Common' is not a pejorative term for pistols."
*It's also an advantage of having a local gun store switched on enough to keep I-Dot pros in stock, at least for Glocks and M&Ps.
.
A true selling point. You can take the girl out of retail but you can't take retail out of the girl. :)
ReplyDeleteYes fully agree, very good advice
ReplyDeleteMy route has been 1911's, but if the one I carry goes down, I simply switch it out for another, I don't even have to change mags, as they are all 9mm and all either commanders or government size, but even the BUG , A para carry 9 will feed off the full size mags.
That is why my carry guns are very similar. My Springfield 1911A1 and my CZ2075 share grip angles, sight picture, safety & disconnect position & operation, grip panels, and holster design. I can use either of them w/o muscle memory problems.
ReplyDeleteI had a major senior moment before my club's monthly IDPA match a few weeks ago.
ReplyDeleteSet the Range Officer in a zipper rug out of my bag while I loaded up boxes of .45 and put them in the bag.
I then forgot said zipper rug when I transferred the range bag to my car.
Fortunately my current "console gun" is also a 1911 so I ran it.
And as I posted on book of Face now that I've added a magwell to the RO and switched from Hogue rubber finger grooves to VZ standard grips I need to modify that car 1911 to be more similar.
You're still the biggest Gun Hipster I know.

mikee,
ReplyDelete"SayUncle points out the problem with multiples of one type of pistol."
He did?
"Oh, lawsy me, what to do?"
Whatever you want.
From now on, whenever questioned, I get to declaim with authority that Tam has said I can do whatever I want. So I got that going for me.
