My 2005-vintage S&W 37 (one of the LEO overruns with bobbed hammer) is 14.4oz unloaded and 16.8oz loaded. It has taken all the willpower I can muster to not get a pocket 380 like the LCP. I'm successful mainly because I have tons of 38special on hand and enough reloading components and casting supplies to reload for the next few decades. If 380 ammo was dirt common (none at WM, very little at my LGS), I might not be able to resist.
I went for a 4 mile trail run yesterday and had the j-frame in the upper pocket of my Camelback. I felt it the entire length of the run.

I carry a S&W SD9VE. I used to have a 1911 in .45ACP,but I sold that at the height of the gun scare after the shooting in Connecticut, because I couldn't afford to feed it and I needed a gun I could feed.
Hand me most any modern pistol and I could tell you a lot of things about it. I would feel comforted carrying anything from a SIG P238,to a single action revolver,to a desert eagle.
Just checked my main carry and it is 17 and 5/8s ounces.
ReplyDeleteNow we can have fat jokes.

8-shot Ruger LC9 pistol: 17.1 oz. empty, 20.5 oz. loaded. When I have my pants on.
ReplyDeleteYou listen to too much NPR (said the pot to the kettle).

Kahr PM45 17oz Unloaded, 24oz loaded up with 5+1 .45 ACP.
ReplyDeleteNot sure what the Ruger LCR in my pocket right now weighs, but probably about the same as the .32.
My stainless 640 probly weighs 3 pounds but I don't care, I'm strong enough. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm with Critter. Probably 2-3 pounds for the SP-101.
ReplyDeleteOn those occasions I lug around a 1911 it seems positively waifish.
Wonder what the sum of total delivered KE from the full payload is for each? Does the 38 deliver more total energy on target in fewer rounds?
ReplyDeleteJust curious. There's more to consider than weight (which I know you know).
Long ago I read something that Clint Smith wrote:
