News: It's not easy being Green...

...and by "green", I don't mean the watermelons currently dominating politics in Eurabia... er, Eutopia; I mean the color of the Saudi flag.

Lufthansa Technik (no relation to Lego Technic) is kitting out a gargantuan Airbus 380 as the world's most bitchen private jet. LT is keeping the identity of the buyer on the QT, but a safe bet would be that his name includes an "al-" or "ibn" somewhere in it. It probably won't be ready for its new owner to use it to fly to the "Gulfstreams Against Global Warming" concert next month, but I'm sure the Irony Police will be tracking it for further such uses.

Meanwhile: Bill, Warren, George? Sell the Gulfstreams, you pikers. They make you look chintzy.

  1. Tamara,

Just think about it for a few minutes.

Lets take a little sized middle eastern field. For example the one I was working on for the last month. They were doing 22,000 barrels of light sweet crude per day. The F&D (finding and development) costs were about 3$/barrel to the coast. Oil is running about 70$/barrel. So, in round numbers this field is making PROFIT of say 65$*22,000 or 1.43 million dollars a day. Or in round numbers about 1/2 a billion a year.

Oh, did I tell you it has been producing like this since 1959? Back in the day it was doing 100,000 barrels a day.

So, buy an A380 for a private jet? Big deal. Chump change so to speak.

Besides, 22,000 barrels a day is trivial. Big fields do 100,000 to 1,000,000 barrels a day......

  3. All you have to do is overthrow a country.

At 70$ a barrel, you can buy a pretty decent army quick with a little production.
