What was he engaged in? A "How Many Of The Four Rules Can You Violate At Once" contest? Looks like he managed to break all four, with predictably fatal results.
Let me be the first cop (here, at least) to roll his eyes and say [cough]dumbass![/cough]
Expect the ubiquitous lawsuit against Beretta, the S.F.P.D. (for: 1. Giving him a gun that would fire *real bullets*, 2. Letting him take it home. 3. Letting him take the ammunition home. 4. Letting him chamber a round. 5. Not training the officer better (they might have a bit of a mpoint there). Negligent hiring (they may have a point there). 6. Negligent retention (they have a point, there.).
Beretta will be sued for making a gun so unsafe as to go "Bang" when the trigger is pulled without a court order.
Perhaps the girlfriend will get in on the suit, for having her life endangered.
Hi Tammy, long time reader, first time commenter. I'm a firefighter in Easton. Check this case out: http://www.pennlive.com/news/sollman/ The story is that Renninger put one round in the center of Sollman's back. Sollman is dead, his widow is sueing the city for $10 million, Renninger is getting a disability pension because of the mental trauma he suffered because of his own actions!
"The firearm flew out of his hand. He grabbed for (the gun) and in grabbing it, squeezed the trigger and shot Jesse as Jesse was walking out of the room," one source said, describing Renninger's account. Keep in mind that EPD uses DA only Heckler & Koch USP 40.
Well, let's hope he didn't procreate, first.

Broke all four? Maybe not.
ReplyDeleteHe probably knew his target.
Let's hope the dead guy was not gay/minority/handicapable, or SFPD will be guilty of a hate-crime for issuing a defective firearm to him.
ReplyDeleteDon't forget the girlfriend's PTSD.
ReplyDeleteDirty Harry, we hardly knew ye...
ReplyDeleteMaybe Darwin was right?
ReplyDeleteFunny how many people join in on that evolution debate without knowing it.
