Gun nuttery...

Sebastian finds evidence that he's a gun nut... in the laundry room, of all places.

For me, the most damning evidence of gun nuttery was when I discovered a cartridge in my purse. Not just any cartridge, either. This was a big-bore rimfire cartridge that had to be a hundred years old, its copper alloy case green with verdigris, and I had no idea what caliber it was, when I had received it, or who gave it to me and where. It was just rolling around in the bottom of my purse... No doubt someone had known of my fondness for 19th Century firearms and handed it to me during a conversation and I had filed it away in my purse without filing it away in my memory.

  1. About 3 years ago, I found an AR15 in my safe, that I couldn't remember aquiring

  2. And here I thought I was bad because I hang on to ammo in calibers I can no longer fire because "you never know when I might get something that can." Ah well, I'm secure in my piker status.

  3. Tam, I don't believe you.

You? Carrying a purse? Pull the other one! :)

  5. I frequently get brass stuck in the treads of my shoes. I'm waiting for hysteria to break out at the library.

  6. Good thing you didn't take any flights with that in your purse.

On the other hand, I wouldn't be surprised if you did and it wasn't found.

  7. I'm sure TSA would have figured it to be a really really scummy old empty lipstick.

  8. I began to suspect myself the day my daughter gave my wife a small "vase" of flowers, and the vase was a brass case that I'd left around.

  9. "Good thing you didn't take any flights with that in your purse."

Hell, I knew a guy who got home from a flight and found two expended shotgun shells in his coat pocket he had forgotten were there, and no one caught them.

  10. But how many guns did you own during the purse incident? 50? 100?

  13. I found a .303 cartridge on my kitchen table. No one in the house has any idea how it got there. To properly dispose of it, I had to by a British WWII LE. Now I have a gun with no ammunition. So I had to buy more .303. I believe it was left by the gun fairy because of some forgotten good deed.

  15. I suspected I might be a gun nut when I found ammo in my underwear drawer. And the kitchen junk drawer. And the car ashtray. And in the change dish. And in the bathroom. And after a day at the range when someone pulled a .45 round out of his front pocket and jokingly asked the convenience store clerk if they had change for a .45, I pulled 5 9mms out of my pocket and said "sure"

  16. Since I'm back in NJ a few times a year, I have to go through the car from top to bottom, and all of the bags we're carrying. They'll put you in jail for a single hollow point in your possession. Found a 9mm between the seats one day.
And if you want to get paranoid, go through one of the new "puffers" at an airport just after leaving the range. [Although both TSA and cops say they're looking for "other" signals than ordinary gunpowder. Ah yup.] OldeForce

  17. Last fall I noticed my Weatherbee O/U snuggled up in the corner of the gun safe with my little .20 ga Ithica. Then this weekend I found a new little Beretta Silver Hawk S/S 20 ga. hiding in the corner. She's so cute. Last nite I seen the Model 70 sweet talking with the Savage bull barrel, hopefully there will be a nice little Ruger .17 mag in the future.
