Belphegor - naturally! A parfum by Dimitri Janisalwz-Colslazw.
The Soviets had their agricultural pulp-fiction romances, those dime-novels with titles like "Ivan Loves his Tractor" - this is a step into the hardcore realm...
Looks like they based it on the Transavia PL-12 Airtruk. Whoever decided a jet was the ideal solution for powering a crop duster should've been taken outside and shot.
Interesting location for the tanks. Lots of drag. CG looks good, but you must use both tanks simultaneously, being so far from the centerline. Hmmm, wonder if they designed it with binary chemicals in mind? Maybe that's why they wanted a jet engine, but I'll bet they didn't get the speed they were expecting.
Of COURSE it's in the polish air museum. Where ELSE would it be. No wisecracks now.
ReplyDeleteI think I like it.
ReplyDeleteDesigned by the Soviets, of course.
For the Soviets, by the Poles.

ReplyDeleteFulfill my five year plan legume production quota!
So I went on YouTube looking for film of one in action. And I found this.

ReplyDelete"The Soviet side insisted on using a jet engine in a new plane, and also participated in the design process."
ReplyDeleteNot shocked. That would probably have been just prior to 1980, right? So they were on the brink of realizing True Communism. They could do anything!
Jet powered. Bi-plane. V-max: 125 mph.
ReplyDeleteThat goes down with the damndest things I ever saw. Thanx, Tam. I don't know if I would have bleeved that.
I wonder how many birds the plane ate before someone got the idea that a jet powered crop duster was a BAD IDEA!
