"This is John Galt speaking..."

Stopping the motor of the world...
Let me just tell you, Congressional/Executive Branch Scumbag, Esq., if you do this... if you take this turn... I won't even think twice. I will move my firm to Switzerland, or to London before the year is out. Those employees who do not follow me, I will have to fire. The corporate taxes I pay will no longer be yours. Instead, they will go to something useful, like a nice tunnel through a mountain for high speed trains that actually work. Further, I will dedicate a substantial portion of my personal time, effort and capital to frustrating your every attempt to collect personal taxes on me thereafter- given your draconian anti-expatriation laws. But that's not all. My job is to make money for my clients, in whatever way I can. I will short your flagging financial firms mercilessly and remorselessly. I will buy QGRI puts to bet against any firm that took bailout money. I will buy credit default swaps on every firm you put your greasy paws on, because I know your fingerprints are laced with poison. For every boneheaded centralist move you make, I will be there, profiting from your lunacy. I will never again take a client who pays taxes in the United States. I will not permit any capital or profit to be diverted to any such. I will do this because in the same way you believe it your divine right to punish "greed," I consider it my duty to punish the stupidity and arrogance that is central planning, and because I believe in economic freedom. I will divert as many of your resources to my new home and its relative economic freedoms as I can. I will promote free markets in this way, and I will never look back. You will have made it clear that you are my enemy, and I do not forget such declarations.

RTWT.

  1. Not an unexpected result. And that is only one business owner.

Stupid restrictions on listed companies will just encourage companies to move to the London exchange, or Canadian or German. There isn't anything magical about Wall Street - there are plenty of other exchanges.

  2. There is not really much to add to this. Amen is appropriate I think.

  3. Fantastic piece. Thanks, Tam.

  4. There is a LOT of this going on. I scaled my business WAY back 3 years ago. The government headaches of having employees wasn't worth it.

  5. Well said.

I don't think he missed anything either.

If our politicritters had any sense, they'd be scared to death of people like that.

Objection! Assumes facts not in evidence.

  7. Yes. We are considering a move to another country, and the final straw was this legislation:

  8. Why would any one with a thinking mind do any other?
If I had the means I would be traveling with him.
I do enjoy my guns, cows and garden but enough is enough.
I guess I could hold out for a few years until "THEY" came for me. But then what?
Eating fresh beef and vegetables certainly takes it's toll on a person.

  9. The software test-and-measurement CEO guy for whom I do design-work, this could be him talking - I know he has been looking very closely at Ireland.

  10. Tell me if that man hasn't channeled the speechifying of the late Sir Winston.

That speech is so tight, any addition to or subtraction from it would diminish it.

If government would spend its time consulting with the business community instead of dictating to it, it might actually solve something.

  11. "You can't determine what finance execs will be paid, folks. You can only determined WHERE they will be paid. "

Exactly. Now all I gotta do is find a country that will take me and all my gunz.

  12. I think the Congressional investigation into the AIG bonuses ended too soon.

What about the political contributions that AIG and other bailout-recipients made? Isn't that a waste of taxpayer money, and shouldn't that be returned?

Should Congressmen and Senators continue to receive full salaries and retired Congressment and Senators receive full pensions until the budget balances and the national debt is paid off? Shouldn't they be capped at minimum wage?

    I think so.

And I look for some lucrative hiring initiatives from Canada and the rest of the world.

  13. The whole "AIG bonus" thing is a red herring.

The Politico-Media Complex wants to stir up class envy and protests in the streets in order to justify laws promoting "Fairness".

Except for the Kulaks; they need to just shut the hell up and keep pulling the wagon.

  14. Here is a resignation letter from an AIG Exec - same theme. Very powerful.

  15. This was posted on AR15.com - I do believe it is the original work of a poster named Austrian.

  16. Brilliant! Only, moving to Switzerland or London doesn't exactly frustrate the stupidity and arrogance that is central planning. It just changes which set of central planners you're paying taxes to.

There is nowhere left to go.

  17. TheRock,

Notice how the text is kinda pinkish? Click on it and see what happens. ;)

(My smart-alec way of saying that that excerpt is just a big link to the original post at Arfcom...)

  18. This kind of loose shit goes around whenever another big lump of socialism moves through the serpent, but it's got no staying power. I can remember, a couple of unwasted crises ago, when heads of major corporations would get up on their hind legs and scratch back. But as things sort themselves out, net income after tax, tax avoidance strategy, attainder avoidance fees, and baksheesh always works out to +1 instead of -1, and they go ahead and do business. The DJIA does not continue to go down 300 a day, even when the commies take over.

After a decade or so, Republicans support Social Security, Conservatives support state schooling ("Our Schools"), rightists support mandatory public service. We're witness to a sad chapter, but it's not the first or last. Not a tenth of these bold threateners will act, and most of those will relent--especially those who have to pay taxes in their adopted homelands. It's how business works. I'm not proud of that.
