Meme for the Fearless.

If you are immune to the mockery of your friends, Marko challenges you to list the five most embarrassing albums on your iPod.

I'm safe for the moment, because my Nano only holds 4 gigs of stuff, which means that there's nothing in there but some really hip, happenin', cool music and a couple of episodes of Firefly. ("Out Of Gas" and "Jaynestown", if you must know...) Dig into my iTunes directory, on the other hand, and you'll find some blackmail material...

  1. Blaze of Glory: That's right, I actually once paid money for the Jon Bon Jovi soundtrack album to Young Guns 2.
  2. Decade: Duran Duran's greatest hits. Teenybopper squealing not included.
  3. Demos & Remixes: The album itself isn't what's embarrassing, what's embarrassing is that I was such a huge Trent Reznor fangirl in '94 that I paid some obscene amount of money for a bootleg NIN CD.
  4. Dr. Feelgood: I have no idea how or why this awful Mötley Crüe CD ended up in my collection, but I dutifully ripped it anyway.
  5. ELO's Greatest Hits: Now there's an oxymoron for you...

The saddest part? That only gets me into the G's. (iTunes, in its anal-retentive robotic way, files the last under "G" for "Greatest"...)

  1. I'll have a professional respond for me, at eighteen seconds.

captcha word Pollici- What happens when a parrot runs things.

    Or Hilary Clinton.

  2. Livin thing? Can't get it out of my head? Evil Woman? Jeff Lynne was and is an exceptional musician, and that album was full of comfort songs. The annoyingly long intro/outros showing off the musicians skills were- well, annoying. But the songs were good and well written. I never got into the hair bands or the other crap, ELO was a lot of fun. If it's an embarrassment, color me guilty.

  3. I suppose it's no worse than getting caught singing "Emotional Rescue" in the shower...

  4. Depends on who is doing the catching.

  5. Hey!

    ELO is wonderful!

  6. I can't do Marko's challenge.

    I don't own an iPod.

Unwashed, verdammt, 80Gb of MP3 files sitting on a decidedly non-trendy SnapServer, that's me.

  7. I was gifted one last year, and frankly now I don't know how I ever managed to mow the lawn without one. XD

  8. There's nothing wrong with Dr. Feelgood except that you have to be vewy vewy caweful and mark off half of the album so you don't accidentally play the songs at work.

  9. "Snowed In" -- the Hanson Christmas album. (I was 14 when they hit it big. Sue me. :-)

  10. "Out of Gas" was one of my favorite episodes.

    I like ELO.

I don't talk about skinning Amish. But they can bake great pies and cakes.

  11. Seriously, that's the worst you can do?

Don't have an ipod, or even any sort of PMP.

I'll see your ELO, and raise you ... The Partridge Family Album (no longer in my collection, and hey, I was in 5th grade, or somewhere close).

More of the Monkees -- still have it.

I'd have to dig through boxes to see what other badness exists, but off the top of my head, the only other one I can remember is The Runaways eponymous album.

I'm with Og on ELO. Best version of Roll over Beethoven ever recorded, for one thing.

Oh, I do have, on vinyl, The Singing Nun. Found it at a garage sale, and just couldn't resist it for a buck. I'm sure, somewhere in those "$10 a box" garage sale stuff, there's bound to be an accordion spectacular of some sort. Depending on your taste, you might rank "The Student Prince" down near the bottom as well. Me, I used to enjoy regaling people with my impression of Mario Lanza, back when my voice would do it.

Be my LOOOOOOOOOOOVE for noone else can ennnnnnnnnd this yearning ...

Don't have the album, but I do have an MP3 of MacArthur Park.

  12. I only have a 512 MB Shuffle. It can barely hold any music. I could stuff it with a few thousand MIDIs, though.

  13. I'm another one without an ipod, on the other hand I have Pandora radio on at work which doesn't suck.

  14. We've all had weak moments.

Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert soundtrack

    BoysIIMen - Cooleyhghharmoney

Spongebob Squarepants - The Best Day Ever

Egyptian Lover - King of Ecstasy

The pile of Amy Grant inherited from the wife. And the Yanni.

SCOTS - Liquored Up and Lacq..wait, no, I like that one.

I also have ELO's Greatest Hits Live. Not embarrassed.

Huey Lewis and the News Live at 25? Not embarrassed.

Pseudo Echo Long Plays 83-87? Not embarrassed. Wondering why I bought the whole thing just to get a Funkytown cover, but not embarrassed.

  15. I'm so old that nothing embarrasses me any more. And I own neither an I-pod nor a cell phone. But I do have a couple of Lil' Walley records on the turntable. Motivation for exercise - the sooner I make my two tons the sooner I don't have to listen anymore.

  16. Jerry Reed - Smokey & the Bandit theme

    Duran Duran - Greatest Hits

    Enya - Orinoco Flow

Siouxie & the Banshees - Kiss them for Me.

    Depeche Mode - Personal Jesus

  17. Thing is, I'm not embarrassed by anything on my MP3 player. If I like it, on it goes, and you can go to the devil.

"Best of Julie Andrews"? Yep. Got a problem with that, punk?

  18. I have an extensive CD collection. I started collecting them about around 1989, so over the years I have amassed a collection. Most of my CD's have been in storage for the last two years, but about 3 months ago I managed to get all of them out of storage.

    Some real gems in there:

    1. Marc Ribot Y Los Cubanos Postizos: Cuban music by Avant Garde guitarist Marc Ribot. Real different

    2. Tower of Power: Back to Oakland- Just great old school funk.

    3. John McLaughlin: When Fortune Smiles- You'll only have to hear it once to either love it or hate it.

Ah the joys of years plundering through the used CD shop.

  19. Jed: "MacArthur Park?" Which version? I have all three that hit the top 40 charts in my music library - Richard Harris, Donna Summer and the Four Tops.

I don't consider any of my music choices embarrassing. If I was embarrassed by it I wouldn't listen to it. I would however easily put it into a guilty pleasure category.

    1. Rhythm of the Night - DeBarge
    2. Wake Me Up Before You Go Go - Wham
    3. Main Course - The Bee Gees
    4. All Time Favorites - Slim Whitman
    5. Baby I'm-a Want You - Bread

  20. Lena Lovich? We share one iPod and use it while travelling.
I don't ever just stick it in my ears and go condition white.

  21. Oh yeh...We was drivin' up to Idaho with My New Best Dirtbikin' Buddy - from Vienna Austria (!) and I thought I'd pop in a CD of some hip old rockin' Steeley Dan that might be *new* to Peter... "Oh ja, that's the music my Mom listened-to."

  22. David: Richard Harris, of course. I don't even want to think about how it would sound done by Donna Summer. Unsure about The Four Tops.

And I've given up feeling guilty about anything pleasurable.

  23. A fellow Browncoat gave me a CD of these dudes singing songs based on Firefly. They naturally covered "The Hero of Canton", but there's also "The Ballad of Joss" and "Big Damn Trilogy". I recommend it.
