Jimmy Carter must be proud.

Here we see what a stern warning from Barry is worth:

Not since the peanut farmer from Georgia have we enjoyed such square-jawed, steely-eyed determination at the helm of our foreign policy.

  1. There was even a scottish flag happily waving in front of the airplane inthe video I saw.

    Nice.

Gotta say everytime I see something like this any sympathy/general vague feelings of live and let live I feel for Muslims in general goes down yet another notch.

  2. Every villain is someone else's hero. At the same time, I know more than a few Muslims who are not pleased, though I do point out that they are Indian and not Arab. Which makes me wonder at what sort of region-specific tendencies might be developing.

I've heard the Scot ministers, but I do wonder what the average man-on-the-street opinion is in Scotland.

  3. I think it was Connie Du Toit who pointed out that Scotland was still there, but all the real Scots had left.

The people who gave us the American revolution (all 5 of our first presidents were home schooled by Scottish tutors), the clipper ship, the iron hulled ship, the steel hulled ship, the steam engine, trains and railroads, modern iron and steel bridges, asphalt (tar MacAdam, tarmac), Radar, Penicillin, most of the early work in turbine engines, and let's not forget Adam Smith and capitalism.

Per capita, the greatest race of engineers and tinkerers in human history. Alexander Graham Bell and James Watt, John Dunlop and Robert Watson-Watt, James Maxwell and William Rankine, Alexander Fleming, the list goes on for hours.

But they left for places like the Appalachins, Canada, the Scottish colony of Rhodesia, anywhere in the English speaking world actually, and they've done quite well.

What's left behind is the dross, the hopeless and hapless, spoiled buttermilk with all the cream skimmed off.

Living proof that the welfare system is disgenic, and knows no boundaries of race or creed.

In short, who cares about what Scotland does or thinks?

Scotland is Russia write small. People almost too lazy to breath, politicians who are charlatans and apparatchiki, a birth rate well below it's death rate, a pervading sense of hopelessness. Like Russia, once their oil is gone, they're as dead as the Hittites.

For reference, the name Foster comes from Perthshire, and the Russell-MacGregors on my mother's side are from Nevis. That used to be a source of pride. Now I'm even more glad that I'm an American.

  4. Scotland cann'ae take much more of this, capt'n!

On a side note, I noticed that they were throwing him a party in Tripoli. You know, I remember we once landed something on the shores of Tripoli a few hundred years ago...

  6. Where are F-111s when you need them?

Or next time, he'd put his disapproval in writing, with a scowl and a frown.

  10. I'm having fond memories of car trips in my youth, with Dad scowling at us in the rear-view mirror and saying things like, "Goddammit! You kids settle down or I'll Turn. This. Car. Around!"

  15. I think it may be rule three or four of being in charge of something-

"Don't give a command that you are sure will not be obeyed".

  16. Googled obama+libya+warning. The half dozen or so news reports I read of those that popped up all said the "warning" was issued AFTER the initial sickening scene in Tripoli occured and refered to any "further" such celbrations happening.
It's beyond me why anyone should expect Libya to heed Obama, or Bush, or ANY president for that matter, but I haven't seen anything further on this. If there were, one would think Fox News would be all over it, but their only report up to this point (search: libya) is their original report.
