American liberals have long complained that ours is the only advanced industrial country without universal health care. Well, now we shall have it. And as we approach European levels of entitlements, we will need European levels of taxation. We're just gonna have to cut this goose open and see if there are any more golden eggs up inside there...
Yes, like England- $8 a gallon gasoline, but free hip replacements. Eventually. If you aren't too old.
ReplyDeleteJust take it all. I can't be bothered with all the math.
ReplyDeleteAnd England just upped the VAT from 15% to 17.5%.
ReplyDeleteThere was the old Al Gore IRS Form:
How much money did you make?_______
Send it in.
I'm down with FairTax, but not VAT.
"I'm down with FairTax, but not VAT."
ReplyDelete...and this wouldn't be a VAT as a substitute for income tax, either.
A BIG reason I'm not down with the Fair Tax is I don't think they can pull off a repeal of the 16th Amendment that sticks. Then we'd have the 31% Fair Tax AND a 30sumthin% income tax and a byzantine subsidy system to figure it all out. Madness.
ReplyDeleteI have found a moderate democrat; he is willing to let you keep 10% of everything you earn under $100,000.
ReplyDeleteWhat was it that the colonials were all uppity about, again?
ReplyDeleteLess than a 1% tax on a certain "luxury" food item, if I recall.
Of course, you'd get a huge cry from the Left about how that was so different, since it was about taxation without representation.
Don't know about the rest of you, but I've feeling quite disenfranchised, and I don't see my vote getting represented, at all, probably for the rest of my life.
So, I ask, time for some bloodshed yet?
have they shot at you irritablearchitect? Have they drawn blood from you or yours? Has anyone tried to herd you or your neighbors into cattle cars for a one way trip to the 'camps'? Then it is NOT time for bloodshed.
ReplyDeleteHow is taxation for a purpose without authority any different than taxation without representation?
ReplyDeleteKrauthammer's doomed--the DC brain slugs are eating his gray matter. No, we will not have "universal health care". The bill has nothing to do with the administration of actual health care, and there are some very good reasons why its interference will make health care a lot less universal that it is now.
It's really time to start learning spanish. I'll want to be able to haggle fluently in the black markets.
ReplyDeleteI'm not advocating anything here, but if you wait until you are being herded into box cars, the only blood that is going to be shed is yours.
ReplyDeleteI don't know where the line is, but it sure as hell isn't after the secret police is taking people away.
NJT,
ReplyDeleteSeriously, sir, if that's YOUR position, fine, but it doesn't have to be mine.
Think of Kanada, with high income tax rates, 15% sales tax and sin taxes that would make you faint. Try $9 for a pack of smokes and $2.89 for a single bottle of Dogfish Head or around $11.50 for a six pack of local.
ReplyDeleteNow remember, we spend practically nothing on defense. In the US, you will either have to cut defense spending drastically or increase taxation to higher than Kanucki levels.
"We're just gonna have to cut this goose open and see if there are any more golden eggs up inside there..."
ReplyDeleteFunny, but know what's sad? It'd be great if it were just a matter of that kind of ignorance and naivete...but it's way more sinister than than.
What they really want is to own that goose's ass and lay claim to those eggs before they ever see the light of day, and like somebody else said, it's got nothin' to do with health care and everything to do with money, power, and control.
Ms. goose may not die of slicin' and dicin', but eventually she will of exhaustion, depression, and hopelessness.
Unless that ol' gander *finally* gets his feathers ruffled up enough beforehand to do what *knows* he has to do.
